Exactly. I think it's perfectly reasonable to have the Seahawks at #32 for under-25 talent...but if you just switch to up-to-25-inclusive (adds Wilson, Baldwin, 3 starting OL, Smith, Wright, and Thomas) they'd have to be one of the top handful of teams instead. Add in 26-year-olds (Harvin, Irvin, and the other 3 members of the LOB) and they'd be #1. But they do have to set a line somewhere in order to write a piece like this.

I don't think it's such a (consciously) arbitrary cutoff. Players under 25 are still on their rookie contracts, so this kind of analysis tells us which teams have drafted well, beyond the most-publicized successes.

The flip side of that coin is how well teams manage to retain their young talent, which is worth another study.

So the hard cutoff is so you can perform this objectively. Stats, right? Except in this case, the stats are obviously misleading as to which teams have the best young cores in the league. So what's the point?
