Aaron Curry -- Safe at Home, Part 2

Um, don't most players look pretty good when they are completely unblocked on a play? I'm sure this guy is a stud, but it seemed like your description was lacking. Was the QB taking a quick drop or throwing a quick slant or something?

Well, the next paragraph says "[T]his play is a great example of what he can do as the rush end in a 3-4 defense, where two linebackers make a five-man front overall. This is where his closing speed and agility with angles set him apart."
So I think that's your answer; whatever the QB was doing, Curry got to him quickly enough to be impressive, unblocked or no. (I don't know that it makes for a great diagram, though.)

First play : Aaron plays the down block well, engage the blocker low, shed the block, hit the running back and forces the fumble. This play shows his instincts, quickness, and good technique.
But IMO the sack shows nothing apart from the good blitz design, the poor RT awareness and Curry straight line speed(impressive though). That plays shouldn't be the proof that he can be a good edge rusher in a 3-4.
