Make sure to check out this three-part series on the evolution of NFL schemes by new FO contributor Andy Benoit. Part I looked at the development of quarterbacks and receivers. Part II looked at how the expansion of spread formations is effecting running backs and linemen.

Remembering Buddy and the Bounty Bowls. It is amazing how we hear the same rhetoric 23 years later.

I have been writing a lot of "list gags" for the New York Times lately, and as usual I have been forgetting to link some of them here. In this Tim Tebow feature, I was given strict limits about the number or religious references. A challenge! Anyway, scroll through the Fifth Down history and you will also find a timeline of the Peyton Manning free agent saga.

There are a lot of places in this article where I take a Football Outsiders concept -- like the fact that the 49ers defense ranks first in Second Level Yards -- and explain it in raw data form. And of course, when talking about the Patriots defense I bring up the old "field position" discussion. But it is still pretty interesting, even though the field position differential for the 49ers is even more interesting.

If not love, a little praise for the things they do somewhat well. Oh wait, that's love I guess. Also, more 49ers running play goodness. I feel like I know Delanie Walker better than my sons.

This is really a Monday morning rant about multiple subjects. If you read my hemming and hawing about Mike Smith in Audibles, this represents my return to message.

I call these features "list gags," where I write a bunch of one-liners around a general theme, then turn it into a timeline or other organizer. Is there an actual name for them? Anyway, once more into the breach on some familiar gags, plus some early Andrew Luck jokes and as much politics as I feel comfortable adding (almost none).

An odd title for a round of diagrams. The last one is my favorite, showing the "spy" techniques the Steelers might use against Tim Tebow.

I package thoughts on the Lurie press conference, Norv Turner thoughts, and a roundup of other news in a burrito of strange observational something-or-another.
