FOX Super Bowl Top 5s

FOX asked us to put together a series of Top 5 lists for Super Bowl week. Doesn't make sense to link them each individually, so I'll just update this link to the newest one, and there's a menu linking to all of them. Subjects include best players on losing teams, worst quarterbacks to make the Super Bowl, and longtime veterans who never made a Super Bowl until their final season. It's meant to be light content, so if we leave someone out, don't freak or anything.

FOX Blog Wrap-Up, January 20-26

Here's a catch-all thread for discussion of this week's posts on the Football Outsiders FOX blog. This week: Similarity scores for Rex Grossman and Tony Romo, my opinion on the Bill Belichick contract rumors, Larry Johnson in fantasy keeper leagues, and the magical mystery tour of the Denver Broncos' fourth-round pick in the 2005 draft.

Colts-Bears Matchups

Mike Tanier and I wrote a pair of articles for FOX about the Super Bowl matchups. The link goes to the Colts' offense against the Bears' defense, and then you can click the link within that one for the Bears' offense against the Colts' defense.

2006 Quick Reads: Week 20

Peyton Manning did not suddenly become a good playoff quarterback yesterday. He's always been a good playoff quarterback. From the Peyton Manning comment in PFP 2005: "The common media storyline was 'Patriots own Peyton,' ignoring the fact that Manning had a very good game -- worth 10.5 DPAR, in fact, once you take into account the quality of the Pats defense. It's not Peyton Manning's fault that Edgerrin James averaged 2.8 yards per carry and that the Colts had 16 first downs passing and zero rushing. It's not Peyton Manning's fault that his receivers coughed up the ball twice."

Manic Monday: Conference Championship Edition

Sorry for the late post - this didn't go up on FOX until about 7:30 PST this morning. So ... here's (hopefully) a few things about the Conference Championshp games you haven't read yet - a Bears team that was guided to victory by Sean Payton's pass-happiness at the worst possible times, and an AFC title game that went back and forth more often than Mike Tomlin's employment status.

FOX Blog Wrap-Up, January 13-19

Here's a catch-all thread for discussion of this week's posts on the Football Outsiders FOX blog. This week: Doug Farrar on the penalty tendencies of the referees assigned to the conference championships, game charting stats on the coverage patterns of the final four teams and their secondaries, Mike Tanier on the retirement of Robbie Tobeck, and why the Colts will have the worst defense in Super Bowl history if they win Sunday.

Patriots Have Equation for Success

In this week's column I go into some of the reasons the Patriots have stayed on top, and I point out that they're not the cheapskates they're sometimes made out to be.

Championship Rundown

Here are Mike Tanier's previews of the two championship games. Once again, we remind you that the AFC Championship is making most people into complete morons, and therefore we have given up on policing the message boards this week. We're sure plenty of people will find plenty to complain about here -- although, to be honest, there really haven't been many bitter Bears and Saints fans around, have there?
