Here's the text of Michael David Smith's chat on BP.com, just in time for the start of the 2006 season. He hits on Deion Branch, Frank Gore, the next coaching innovation, and where to watch games in Chicago, among other issues. (Quick note from Aaron: Mike is wrong about the Patriots; they've given out huge money -- compared to the highest contracts at the position -- to two players, not just one. The other is Richard Seymour.)

Tim Gerheim offers up Week 1 start and sit recommendations, chock full of Football Outsidersy matchup analysis. If you don't get enough fantasy discussion in the Scramble For The Ball thread (and who ever gets enough fantasy discussion?), you can use this as another open thread for that.

The person that makes you go "Who's that guy?" when you see his name in the season predictions (coming next week!) and Audibles (coming in two weeks!) has an article on Rotoworld, our newest media partner. This week it's a brief introduction of FO for Rotoworld readers, plus a few schedule projection-based fantasy pointers. For the rest of the season it will be a start-him-or-sit-him article drawing on the FO knowledge bank.

This week's Football Outsiders feature on the Boston Sports Media Watch site takes a look at the selection of Laurence Maroney: how it represents a sea change from previous Belichick drafts, why it may have been a necessary risk, and its potential for success. Sadly, Ken Walter's streak of appearances in FO on BSMW columns ends this week at ... 2.

Here is the text of today's chat at BaseballProspectus.com, featuring the "top ten things we've learned at Football Outsiders." Of course, this actually goes to 11, which is one larger. I answered questions for about two hours, the longest and most active chat at BP.com yet.

We finish our series ranking all 32 teams, unit-by-unit, with a look at the men behind the men. In Washington, more is not less, as the league's largest coaching staff also ranks number one on our list. Down at the bottom, just why was Mike McCarthy the choice in Green Bay, anyway?

How good is Adam Vinatieri, and did the Patriots make a mistake letting him go? Bill Barnwell investigates in a two-part article on Boston Sports Media Watch's Patriots Game Day page. FO readers won't be surprised to learn that kickers are inherently inconsistent, but it's still surprising to see just how small the correlation is between kicker salary and kicker performance. Link goes to Part II; click the link at the beginning of that article to read Part I as well.

And now, the moment you've been waiting for ... an article where Buffalo and Cleveland rank in the top five!

More FO writing in a new place: Bill Barnwell will be writing a regular column analyzing the Patriots through the FO lens for Boston Sports Media Watch's "Patriots Game Day Rear View." (One of the interesting twists here is that while Bill lives in Boston, he's a Giants fan, not a Patriots fan.) The first column looks at Deion Branch and his historical comparables.

We continue our series reviewing each unit team-by-team. If you don't yet own a copy of Pro Football Prospectus 2006, and want a hint of some of the great data we collected with the game charting project, this is the article for you. If you've been wondering when the Seattle Seahawks would finally be ranked low in something, this is the article for you. If you are a Denver Broncos fan and you want to see us praise your team and say very mean things about your division rivals, this is really the article for you.
