Let's Give the Packers Defense Some Love

If not love, a little praise for the things they do somewhat well. Oh wait, that's love I guess. Also, more 49ers running play goodness. I feel like I know Delanie Walker better than my sons.

First? Really? Like the article, Mike.

This is fun, but I especially like it when you give us a play from Team A's perspective and then counter with what Team B might do against that - even if the teams mentioned are completely different.

As usual, excellent work. However, Figure 4 - which isn't actually labeled, is a bit confusing. First, the Packers are on offense, but the yellow boxes are lined up on defense. The circle in the shotgun with the 12 on it which represents Aaron Rogers is Giants blue. Also, it references Jermichael Finley by number (88), but he isn't actually identified on the play. By process of elimination, I can assume he's lined up tight next to the RT, but I suppose their could be some sort of unbalanced line situation. If that's the case, though, where is the safety you referenced that was assigned to cover him?

It's the Packers throwback jersey colors. Though I don't know why the Giants are yellow other than it's a contrasting color.

I'm fairly sure that 86 on the diagram was meant to be 88. I cannot find an 86 on the Packers' current roster, per Yahoo.

The only 86 on the Packers is Tori Gurley, who is currently on the practice squad.

Its an 88, but part of the second 8 is cut off by the dotted line which illustrates the Pass from Aaron Rodgers (12)to Jordy Nelson (87). Look again for the safety covering Jermichael Finley. He is there lined up about 3-4 yards off the line just to Finley's inside.

Walker is out this week with a broken jaw (wierdly kneed in the head accidentially in the week 16 Seahawks game). Not sure how replacing him with non-receiving threat Peelle is going to mess up those plays (fewer TE arounds for sure).
