Four Downs: AFC East

Put on a pot of coffee; this edition of Four Downs is chock full of info. Bill Barnwell looks at overused running backs, second-half receivers, the Colts' #2 receiver, Dallas Clark, and the worst run defenses in the history of DVOA. See if you can guess what they all relate to before reading the article.

Four Downs: NFC East

In 2005, the NFC East was the league's best division with a historically strong collection of coaches. In 2006, one of those coaches lost his ability to motivate, one lost his ability to pick personnel, one quit, and one needs time off for his family. Three teams made the playoffs, but two of them backed in. What will become of the NFC East in 2007?

Four Downs: AFC West

All four AFC West teams had disappointing endings to their seasons. One has a new offensive coordinator, one has a new defensive coordinator, and one has both. The fourth team has the same coordinators and quote-worthy head coach. Where do they go from here? Four Downs has some answers.

Four Downs: AFC East

We finish our "Best Player Available" analysis and the latest round of Four Downs by taking a look at the new arrivals in the AFC East: Two exiled New Orleans defenders, some talented young defensive backs, a couple rookie Dolphins with family connections to the NFL, one PFP 2006 coverboy, and a new challenger for the title of "Football Outsiders' Favorite Player."

Four Downs: NFC East

The Eagles and Giants subscribe to the Best Player Available philosophy. The Redskins, it seems, do not. And the Cowboys had a third philosophy in 2006, grabbing players with less upside but even less downside. Plus, LaVar Arrington gets Postonized. It's all in the latest edition of Four Downs.

Four Downs: NFC North

It's all about defense in the NFC North, where three teams took linebackers with their top pick and the other one added to the top defense in the league with yet more defensive players. Here's a look at the draft and free agent moves around the division.

Four Downs: AFC North

Cincinnati may have reached with some late picks, and Baltimore didn't need to give away a sixth-round pick, but otherwise all four AFC North teams score very well according to Sean McCormick's Best Player Available analysis. Plus, Ryan Wilson has the rest of the news from the division, as the Bengals work towards locking up their offensive linemen long-term and the Ravens wait for Steve McNair. And wait, and wait, and ... hey, wait a minute, the wait is over!

Four Downs: NFC South

Good times in the NFC South, as the Falcons get a first-round cornerback in the second round and the Saints get a first-pick player with the second pick. They also may have snagged the best undrafted free agent available. Meanwhile, Carolina makes an unexpected choice at running back, and Tampa Bay makes some unexpected choices on the offensive line. Sean McCormick has Best Player Available analysis and Darrel Michaud has the rest of the news from around the division in the latest edition of Four Downs.

Four Downs: AFC South

Mario, I just met an end named Mario, and suddenly that name will never be the same to me. Sean McCormick attacks the AFC South with Best Player Available analysis -- hint, this guy Reggie Bush was still on the board for Houston -- while Ned Macey brings you the rest of the news including a similarity scores table for Jimmy Smith which was supposed to go in PFP 2006. We spent a lot of time on it so it has to go somewhere.
