The 49ers needed another wide receiver so they weren't stuck with someone like Quinton Patton on the field all the time, and the Bills apparently feel that they have too many wide receivers now that they drafted Sammy Watkins, so Steve Johnson is off to the 49ers for a conditional 2015 fourth-round pick which could become a third.
Most similar WR to Steve Johnson 2011-2013 by Football Outsiders sim scores:
Vance Johnson 1988-1990
Reggie Langhorne 1988-1990
Muhsin Muhammad 1999-2001
Dwayne Bowe 2007-2009
Earnest Gray 1982-1984
Kevin Walter 2007-2009
Bert Emmanuel 1996-1998

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman doesn't need a spokesman or PR firm to announce his new contract. He turned to a Stanford graduate with a degree in communications who is working on his Master's: himself.
"I am blessed to announce that the Seattle Seahawks and I have reached an agreement on a contract extension," Sherman wrote on his blog today.

Russ Lande and I (Tanier) have gone into something halfway between Beast Mode and a fugue state in the final days of draft coverage. There are tons of articles littering Sports on Earth by one or both of us, but this condenses 3 months of draft babble into a semi-concise roundup.

Great Don Banks longform writing from SI.com about the day in 1982 when the Tampa Bay Bucs drafted the wrong guy thanks to crappy speaker phone quality. The Bucs ended up making a trade to use another pick on the guy they wanted in the first place, and he was a complete bust. Meanwhile, the guy they took by accident became an All-Pro.

Seeing the glass half-full is a great way to understand what teams are truly hoping to accomplish this weekend. This weekend! The draft is just a few days away! Finally!

A lot of these YouTube sports humor videos are pretty blah but I have to admit, this one made me laugh. Pretty amusing. (Whispers: "Tebow.")

Per media reports, it's a four-year, $40 million extension, with $27.25 million in guaranteed money. Thomas will be the first safety in the NFL to make $10 million a year.

A deep, painful dive into the world of Sam Bradford and Brian Schottenheimer. Stick around to the bitter end or check the Tailgater blog to see my Dali paintings of Schotty's melting-clock screen passes.

In an opening week where even the elite teams in college football looked mortal, the SEC had two big surprises in Texas A&M and Georgia defeating their South Carolinian opponents by big scores.
