Merry Christmas, Packers fans. The team announced today that Aaron Rodgers will return to the field for this week's de facto playoff game against Chicago. Replacing Matt Flynn with Rodgers changes the odds on this game to roughly 50-50, but not more than that. Remember, the Packers defense has been lousy all season and will be without Clay Matthews this weekend.

This year's All-Rookie Team gets it done in the trenches, though I have to admit that I felt much better about the offensive line last Friday than I did on Sunday night.

Well, this changes things a bit, especially when it comes to press-written narratives. Tony Romo suffered a back injury in yesterday's win over Washington, a herniated disk in the lumbar region. He toughed it out enough to make the comeback and win the game, but the injury requires surgery and apparently is so bad he won't be able to play the rest of the season. That means Kyle Orton will start against the Eagles in the must-win Week 17 game. Good thing the Cowboys went out last year and got maybe the best backup quarterback in the game.

Cam Newton stepped up. Others did not. Had a lot of fun watching film of the Dolphins offensive line and Cowboys secondary while prepping this piece. And by fun, I mean I never want to see either unit again.

Peyton Manning broke the single-season passing touchdown record for the second time. Where does this stand in terms of a player breaking a record, losing it, only to regain it again?

Joel Corry of CBS Sportsline looks at the best and worst cap situations in the NFL going into the 2014 offseason. It's an interesting start to the offseason discussion. The top 10 are linked above, led by Oakland -- Lord knows they jettisoned enough money last offseason so they could be in this position a year later -- Jacksonville, and Cleveland. Also in surprisingly good cap shape: Washington and Green Bay.

After three NFL seasons of kicking off from the 35-yard line, what has been the impact on touchbacks, returns, field position, scoring and injuries? Also, is this rule responsible for a record number of big comebacks?
