Packers' left tackle Bryan Bulaga tore his ACL during Saturday's Green Bay "Family Night" scrimmage and is probably done for the season. Bulaga's transition from right tackle to left was by no means guaranteed to go smoothly, but he was still the Packers' best tackle. Aaron Rodgers can help cover for that line's problems against mediocre and bad defenses, but it's the kind of issue that I would bet gets magnified when we get to the postseason. At least the Packers now have the whole season to figure out their line and get some cohesion between those players.

As in past years, we've done a number of interviews with various SB Nation websites to promote Football Outsiders Almanac 2013. (Click to read more.)

Fans of Walkthrough will enjoy my notes from the road, I hope: a mix of observations about prospects, weird drills, and misadventures on the Lincoln Highway.

Using DVOA splits based on our charting data, we've solved the mystery of Josh Freeman's disappearance in Weeks 12-17. Turns out it he acquired an acute case of blitz-induced paranoia.

This is a really good idea. Ted Bartlett of Denver Broncos blog "It's All Over Fatman" has come up with an idea to describe defensive schemes using a series of letters, as if they were personalities in the Myers-Briggs Indicator. You end up with descriptions that are much more detailed than just "3-4" vs. "4-3," not to mention more applicable in a league where teams now have to play nickel or dime the majority of the time. The splits:
Stack (2-gap) vs. Penetrate (1-gap)
Downhill run D vs. Flow run D
Man vs. Zone
Coverage-oriented vs. Blitz-oriented

Bill Barnwell checks in with a look at the general manager tree branching out from Green Bay, and examines the total value of all the draft-day trades that Green Bay has managed to make under Ted Thompson.

So much for that great addition the Seahawks made this offseason. The details don't seem to be quite clear, but Percy Harvin has tweeted that he's having surgery on the torn labrum in his hip. He'll be out for at least half the season, possibly more. Sidney Rice is also having some sort of knee problem that has him going to Switzerland for treatment, but the Seahawks claim he will be ready not just for the start of the regular season but for the start of the preseason.

While nominally about all sports, Dr. James Andrews (and Mike Philbrick) looks at some of the more famous NFL careers ended by injury for Grantland: Gale Sayers and Johnny Unitas. What would have happened to them today?

Mike and Tom take a (belated) look at the candidacies of first-time semifinalists Derrick Brooks, Tony Dungy, Marvin Harrison and Walter Jones, and wonder what the Dallas coaches were thinking on Monday night.
