2013 NFL Schedule Discussion Thread

The NFL announced the full 2013 schedule tonight. Here's a link and a thread for you to discuss which teams have particularly easy or hard stretches. I'm very happy that, at least at first glance, it doesn't look like the league did that crazy thing it did in 2012 where numerous division rivalries had both games scheduled within three or four weeks of each other.

Pat Summerall: A Life Remembered

A short video from NFL Films about the legacy of Pat Summerall, who died yesterday of cardiac arrest. I became aware of the NFL rather late in Summerall's broadcasting career, but it's still hard for me to not compare other announcers to him.

2013 SSAC Football Analytics Panel Video

If you're interested, the video from this year's football analytics panel at the MIT Sloan conference is finally online. Andrea Kremer moderated; panelists were Rams COO Kevin Demoff, 49ers COO Paraag Marathe, former Patriots and Chiefs executive Scott Pioli, and -- drum roll, please -- Football Outsiders progenitor Aaron Schatz.

I was there, and I'm not saying this because he pays my bills, but Aaron was the star of the discussion. To be fair, though, he was basically the only one at liberty to offer blunt opinions. (I'd say full-throated, but he had lost his voice the day before.)

In any event, click for "Armanti Edwards, c'mon!" Stay for the DeAngelo Hall takedown.

The 2007 Draft and VAE

Our annual look at the NFL draft from six years ago was more of an informal, subjective look at the class of 2007. What if we look at things more objectively? (Click to read more.)

Character, Media, and the NFL Draft: A Sour Cocktail

Major criminal charges aside, factoring character into a prospect's evaluation when you're not part of an NFL team is a dangerous proposition.

Mandatory Monday: The Kolb Delusion

Kevin Kolb to Buffalo, Carson Palmer to Arizona, Matt Flynn to Seattle, Ryan Fitzpatrick to Tennessee, swing your partner round and round. What I want to know is: what did Drew Stanton do in past life, set fire to London or something?
