I had long since turned off the television by the time Tyler Brayton decided to drop an atomic knee on Jerramy Stevens, but Raiders head coach Art Shell says his player was only retaliating after a cheap shot from the Seahawks tight end: "Tyler was reacting to someone trying to kick him in the groin area." On Tuesday's "PTI" Michael Wilbon mentioned that some NFL players consider Stevens dirty and weren't surprised by Brayton's ... um, response. Either way, maybe guys should start wearing cups to protect their "groin area."

Two players are underrated due to their ability to draw pass interference penalties. (Click link to find out who.)

Gregg Easterbrook asks a simple question: "Why does injured reserve exist at all? Injured reserve seems to have two functions: to force owners to pay players to do nothing, and to prevent fans from seeing players who sustained injuries, then recovered."

The Sports Media Guide has a great interview with Rick Gosselin, the NFL columnist for the Dallas Morning News. It's amazing to hear how much the NFL -- and its relationship with the media -- has changed in the last 30 years.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell really takes his job seriously. When he's not suspending players for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, he's busy keeping NFL footage off the internets: "... the NFL's director of corporate communications, Brian McCarthy, confirmed that 'we recently asked the site to remove more than 3,000 clips featuring NFL game footage. The site complied.'" (free registration/bugmenot required)

While the Ravens continue to play inspired football, the AFC North defending champion Bengals have dropped four of five after starting the season 3-0, including yesterday's 26-20 loss in Baltimore. Chad Johnson's not happy about the offense, T.J. Houshmandzadeh questioned the officiating and Carson Palmer had a few words for Chris Henry after the second-year wide receiver jogged after a Hail Mary pass that was eventually intercepted.

Me and Matt Cassel could become close friends cause we both never see the field and he wants to talk to me.
Jim Sorgi probably doesn't remember Roxy Music in '72, but this week's Boston Sports Media Watch feature takes a look at how rare it is for a backup QB like Cassel or Sorgi (Casorgi? Sorgisel? Thank god they're not getting married) to have to take the reins of their team over.

Despite Penn State winning the Big Ten over Wisconsin, the Playoff Selection Committee made the right call to put Ohio State and Washington in over the Nittany Lions.
