Bizzare Martz-type challenge from Andy Reid. Had he won it he saves about 4 yards. Obviously he lost.

Listening to the radio broadcast, Reid for some reason challenged the ruling of a catch, not the spot of the ball. Which was insanity, unless he thought he saw Moss bobble the ball before he stepped out, and that didn't happen.

The only way Reid's challenge makes sense as anything other than a temper tantrum is if he thought that Moss had stepped out of bounds before he caught the ball. On the replay I didn't see a good angle on Moss' route, so I don't know if it's that's at all plausible.

I think the rule changes in the 4th quarter. Just for occasions like this, when you want to mess around with backup QBs.

I think you can play as a kicker or punter without it counting as an official entry. Remember, Tom Tupa was usually listed as his team's 3rd QB, but that didn't stop him from punting.

He's the "assistant head coach - defense", much like Dave Wanstadt was for the Dolphins under Jimmy Johnson. It's the highest position you can have short of head coach, and it's the highest position he has demonstrated competence in.

To me, this seems like the "Peter Principle" in action - people are promoted to the level of their incompetence. Can't we just leave mr. Williams in the position he is good at, in stead of promoting him to a position he's failed at before? Maybe these are just the words a Redskin fan who doesn't want to lose yet another talented defensive coordinator (Ray Rhodes, Marvin Lewis) and force the D to change its system again. But if I were a fan of another team, I'm not sure I'd want to give the keys to Gregg Williams.

Rough break for the 49ers- after a season of nearly unparalleled suckitude, they don't even get a top-5 pick out of it because there were teams that were lousy and didn't play the Rams twice. Their total DVOA is twice as bad as the #31 team. Ouch.

The horror show called Julius Jones continues. 15 attempts for a total of 1 yard gained. I would recommend Bledsoe not throw to him, especially. If Jones sees he's going to lose yardage like that, he should just drop the ball. How inept can you get?
If I was Bill Parcells, Jones would not get on the field again tonight except if I felt like playing him on special teams.

I never figured I'd be so glad for a Patriots loss. Funny thing was, if Cassel hadn't botched the 2-point conversion throw, the game would have gone to OT. I'd rather see the Pats face the Jags than the hot Steelers, history be d*mned. And I'd prefer they meet the Colts sooner rather than later. Personally, with this year's Patriots team, I'll consider the season a success if they get past the Jags and don't get blown out by the Colts.

No one mentioned how in the Redskins game Reid failed to challenge the fumble returned for a touchdown by Taylor that sealed the game. The first time through I couldn't tell if it was a pass or a fumble, and I was 100% sure Reid would challenge. On replay it was an obvious fumble, but even if you're almost certain to lose, you still throw the flag and see what happens, that was game over, why not take a chance? And after he made that ridiculous challenge for 3 yards earlier in the game.
It seems to me like coaches screw up so many obvious things like this in the heat of the moment that they should have somebody up in a both, away from the action who's job it is just to monitor the flow of the game and make obvious decisions like this. Someone who could relay down when to use one of the 3 remaining timeouts when there's 30 seconds left and the clock is running instead of wasting 15 seconds trying to spike the ball. Of all the time and money teams spend preparing for games it's just so amazing to me how many things like this get screwed up.

Reid couldn't challenge the Detmer fumble because the Eagles had no timeouts left. I agree, though, that his earlier challenge was ridiculous.

For the last three years, the Jets actually have had a clock management coach, Dick Curl (no kidding), who pretty much does what you suggest in your second paragraph. Lot of good it's done them, as they've pretty much become synonymous with poor clock management.

I'm a Rams fan, and I'm sick of the Leonard Little lovefest. He's having a big game against a statue while being "blocked" (I use that term loosely) by a rookie RT who is starting only because of injuries. If Little is indeed this good, as a Ram fan I question where was this kind of performance all season? The SNF crew hasn't missed a beat tonight.

Also, I managed to hear the crew say that Mike Patrick and Paul McGuire are moving to college next year. I'm counting down the days...

Yes it was sweet to knock Dallas out of the playoffs, and McMahon couldn't have done it in a better way, by making the Skins work for it and get quite beat up in the process, even as we all waited with anticpation for his bonedheaded plays of the day. In the past few weeks we've managed to beat up DC's secondary, the Giants Linebacking corps, and knock Dallas out with a TKO. Not bad.

Now its time to start the bloodletting. May McMahon and Wynn never wear and Eagles uniform again.

Wow, what did "Rusher McFumbles" do to deserve the ridicule? The kid just played his first meaningful game in like 5 years, and he's not even the worst rookie QB in the league. He gets his first 2 TD passes without even playing a full game. How long did it take the top pick in the draft to get his first 2?
