This thread is for discussion of action on the field before, during, and after Week 10 of the 2006 NFL season. You can talk about who you think will win or lose before the games start and last-minute news on Sunday morning. Then during the games, discuss strange plays, great performances, and stupid announcers (of which there are plenty). After the day is done, we'll discuss the results of the week Sunday night and Monday before our weekly commentary articles appear.
Because of a high number of comments expected Sunday night, we've created a separate thread for Bears-Giants, click here.
Please ask your fantasy football start/bench and waiver wire questions in the discussion thread for Scramble for the Ball.
Lane Johnson and D.J. Fluker were selected high in the draft, but both have troubling flaws in pass protection according to Word of Muth.

Primero.
Please Bengals, make a miracle.
FO I have a question I need answered!!
Can you show us the salary cap numbers for Brady and Manning?
I keep hearing that Manning is eating up so much cap space but I though Brady's number was similar. Especially when you consider that the last couple of years of Mannings are surely to be voided.
Thanks Much!!
As someone who watch the MNF game. When will we see Tuiasosopo start for Oakland?
Re: 2
I didn't realize there was a link some salary cap pages.
Brady is taking up:
2006 - 13.8M
2007 - 11.3M
2008 - 13.3M
2009 - 10.6M
2010 - 8.9M
Now for Manning there is no unofficial information. Using his base salaries from the NFLPA site, and adding on his prorate signing bonus (7 years, 34.5M = 4.9M per year). I'm not sure if that is a valid method.
2006 - 5.9M
2007 - 5.9M
2008 - 16.4M
2009 - 18.9M
2010 - 20.7M
2011 - 18.9M
2012 - 18.9M
Manning's base salary after 2008 is ~ It looks like the Colts might re-negotiate his contract and give Manning another signing bonus after 2007.
Now... there still might be some money pro-rating from Manning's original signing bonus into 2006 and 2007... I'm just not sure. Consider that a back of the hand calculation.
On my way to go tailgate for Colts-Bills. GO HORSE!!
AW looked aweful in only a couple of sacks and the rest is attributable to the OL. I noticed atleast 2 sacks where the defender was on AW a microsecond after he had the ball in his hand.
It also didn't help that the coaches designed 5-step and 7-step drops
It also didn't help that Randy Moss and other receivers dropped a lot of catches
I am not saying that andrew walters is anything but a decent QB, if people around him give him a chance.
MT is bad, quite bad ... if any Raider fan is calling for MT instead of AW, that's when you starting planning for ..... DRAFT DAY!
Matthew, thanks for posting that, which matches up with what I've seen elsewhere. I think both guys will renegotiate within the next three years.
As always, IRC is open in channel #FO on server bendenweyr.dyndns.org
All are welcome.
I love football Sundays! Yes, the rythym of football season rivals that of the lunar rythym. Sunday to Sunday to Sunday again. Too many games to watch!
Washington has to try and beat Philly @ Philly in order to have even a shot at rallying into the playoffs like last year. San Diego/Cincinnati might be the premier matchup this morning... and I wouldn't bet on it, but I think Buffalo has a good chance of upsetting Indianapolis.
Again I see three interesting afternoon games. Denver will kick Oakland in the crotch, St. Louis travels to Seattle for that division crown, and New Orleans plays Pittsburgh. Fun fun fun!
Anybody else think it's weird that half of Alaska is watching GB-Min, while the other half is watching Was-Phi? Is there a famous Alaskan player on one of those teams that is causing the stations near his home town to show his game or something?
According to this site, which has Excel workbooks for each team's salary cap, Manning's cap numbers are:
2007: 9.208 million
2008: 19.708
2009: 22.208
2010: 18.183
2011: 14.658
2012: 14.658
The numbers for Brady are the same as posted in #4.
Re: 11
Daryn College, from North Pole, Alaska (no kidding), is a guard on the Packers.
That's "Colledge", not "College".
Announced today:
Ray Lewis will sit out today's game because of the back injury he sustained last week against Cinn.
Special team beast Mike Smith gets the nod in his place.
BTW, it was pretty funny last week when, right after Lewis took the shot to his back, Cinn. ran a play and the RB (think it was Rudi Johnson) basically ran right through Lewis. Admittedly, a back injury will sap your strength, and Cincy's OL did a great job clearing the hole so that the RB had a full head of steam, but still, Ray Lewis of 2003 or earlier simply would not have been punked like that. Anyway, the funny part, at least if I remember correctly, was when Randy Cross said that RJ gave Ray-Ray "a facial."
BTW, that was the first rush TD allowed by the Ravens this year. No wonder they lead the league in defensive DVOA.
Well, it's good to know that for a great car, you start out with hood ornaments, and Peyton and Marvin are the Colts' hood ornaments.
Someone revoke that guy's license to broadcast.
16: There's a Ford/Detroit Lions joke there somewhere, but I can't find it.
I've just spent 15 minutes trying to connect to the site.
Is there a problem?
We have Chargers @ Cincy or Ravens @ Titans, followed by Saints @ Steelers or Rams @ Seahawks.
Palmer, with a bit of time carved up the San Deigo secondary on Cincy's 1st drive. 7-0 Bengals.
And John Mellencamp returns.
Start of three weekends in a row in Spain for me, don't have any idea of how to see games so it looks like I'll be relying on gamecenter and commentary here for a while...
The Bills wimped out: 4th down on the 4, and rather than either take a touchdown or pin Peyton on the goal line, they took the field goal.
Not a terrible choice, but if you're going to give the ball back to Peyton on his 35, wouldn't you rather be up 7?
Nice opening FG drive by the Titans. Then the Ravens get the ball and Tenn. blows a coverage. Thanks for the gift TD. Ravens 7, Titans 3.
Colts 3 and out. 2 short pass to Rhodes left them 4 yards shy, and the Bills defense wrestled a pass away from Marvin for an incomplete.
Then Hunter Smith booms a punt, it rolls to the 2, and the Colts down it there.
Argh, Colts still can't stop the run.
#18 James
Just to let you know that they have reduced the cost of gamepass for the remainder of the season to only $99 which comes out at about £55 for every game remaining or about 14 quid for each week. I just bought the season, it seems good value as I would spend half that on beers and a burger at the sports cafe.
Packers seem to have a pattern. nothing on first down, nothing on second down, long pass to donald driver on 3rd down, repeat...
Well, Farve's offense consists of 20+ yard strikes to Driver on 3rd down, of which he made 3 of on a fg drive that got stopped on the 2 yd line.
The Ravens D is looking terrible today. Undisciplined. Vince Young apparently stopped but the refs gave him the TD, but then McAllister commits a stupid personal foul that makes a challenge pointless.
And then Brad gets hit by a non-touched blitzer and packer ball on the 20.
Andrew #20
I use NFL Gamepass to watch the games. Price is quite much, but works perfectly.
Just seen the Titans TD. Why wasn't that challenged? Young was clearly short.
It seems the Vikings found a way to stop the Favre-Driver 20 yard games. Unfortunately its give them the ball inside the 20.
Is Ronnie Brown hurt?
James--it may have been b/c of McAllister's penalty. Why waste a challenge when the best you can get is them having 1st and goal from the 1-foot line.
Sean Taylor's jockstrap is out on the field at the Linc, smoldering.
Bengals are shredding the Chargers defense; Palmer is on fire.
The Viking game is going to be brutal to watch if the Pack manage to maintain a 90% 3rd down conversion rate.
So strange to be able to hear Peyton at the line.
Wow. Defense forces a turnover and offense scores a TD.
McCarthy needs to ignore the fans. He keeps running it on short yardage and the backs get stuffed. This O-line isn't designed to shove people off the ball. And the Williames are too darn big anyway.
14-0 Bengals, and Palmer is 7-7 for 111yds. SD are getting no pressure, and the secondary can't cope.
4th and goal for Browns at the 1...they punch it in...sigh.
Manning to Wayne, TD Colts.
Vikings actually made a 1st down. Of course, they had to use all 4 downs while in their territory to do it.
Hey JAFF, is Rossum out? Just saw Jennings got the kick return.
Great ST play by the Colts, couldn't see who. Grabbed the kickoff returner in the open field, swung him around, and forced the fumble. Bills recovered.
That is the third time David Carr has thrown the ball away with no receiver in the area, and to me he's been inside the tackle box every time. Number of flags thrown : zero.
Rossum was injured in coverage on the big Winslow pass setting up first and goal. No news on the seriousness of the injury. Given the state of the Atlanta secondary, that's even worse than you would normally think.
Tennessee is shredding the Ravens D. Gaping holes to run and wide-open receivers downfield. This game looks bleak.
Well, a god awful 'deep' ball by Johnson, but the coverage was so broken it didn't matter. TD Vikes (1st in 29 drives)
beatdown in progress in Cincy, 21-0 Bengals.
San Diego doesn't seem to have left the West Coast today.
Dear San Deigo,
It might be a good idea to cover Chad Johnson down the Field. Leaving him on his own in the secondary is very bad, and can result long completions.
Message ends
Another scr*w up by the Packer secondary. 40 yard pass play as Harris releases the wide receiver and no safety help.
It's nine games into the season. Nine. How does Kurt Schottenheimer keep his job??? Honest. You have three guys who have been in the league for some time (Harris, Woodson, Manuel) and yet nobody seems to know what others are doing.
The secondary has completely undermined the the whole season. It's beyond absurd.
And TMQ wrote "Game Over" in Tenn. Pretty fluky TD. The Ravens have no answers.
Nice 'throw' from VY for the Titans TD. Aaron Brooks on a good day.
Now see Farve, if you wanted to make that 3rd down, you needed to just throw it to Driver.
Rhodes is doing a great job today. 2 runs from inside the 10 result in a first down, give the offense some room to maneuver.
Rossum is back in the game, FWIW. And it's not worth much.
People really think Garrard is the better quarterback? Seriously?
as a side note, the "pinch" Honda Element commercials are great. I wish they would show those as often as GM does John Mellencrap.
I think it's time to write game over in the Bengals-Chargers game. Chargers are nowhere close to being able to stop the Bengals and have looked pretty futile on offense.
did someone expect this scoreline:
BAL 7 TEN 19
CLE 14 ATL 0
SF 10 DET 0
HOU 10 JAX 3
GB 10 MIN 7
KC 0 MIA 6
Wow., looks like we can plan atleast a couple of upsets in these?
Just out of curiousity why does Pat Williams ALWAYS seem to be jacked up to play GB? Ever since he has arrived in Minny Williams plays lights out against the Pack with obvious emotion. And I know he doesn't play with the same fervor in other games.
What's the motivation??
I'm really impressed with the Bills' pass defense - Peyton's still killing them, but the defender is always right on top of the receiver.
That's terrible. A linebacker HAS to make that tackle. Good grief guys.
And now Bethel Johnson makes a fine catch.
Nice work defense. Offense manages 10 points against a quality defense but you deem it necessary to just give it right back.
Sad. But that's the sign of a bad team.
Holy crap that was an amazing one handed catch by Bethel Johnson. Let's have him play instead of Troy for the foreseable future.
Gotta say: Go AFC South cellar dwellars!
Stop the press;
Chargers force an incompletion.
Ravens coming in had a 2-game lead. Somehow I knew that was too good to be true. Tennessee is absolutely blowing them out today.
Billy McMullen has two touchdowns today.
Whoa. Titans went for it on 4th and 1?
So far, I'm seeing the difference between the Viking offense in this game (looking like an nfl offense) and the offense in the last game (div iii college offense, and a bad one at that) is that they are using almost entirely different receivers. Amazing what the difference is when the catch rate is 80% instead of 20%.
The ball is finally bouncing the Eagles way. The Redskins missed a 48 yard FG, and on the next drive the Eagles faced 3rd and 15. Good protection gave McNabb time to find Reggie Brown 21 yards down the field. Brown is hit just after the recepition and the ball bounces out of his hands into the air, and it comes down into the hands of a sprinting Correll Buckhalter, who runs it the rest of the way in for the TD.
Well, here come the turnovers.
Packers let the Vikings drive the length of the field to score the go ahead touchdown. Typical Packer pattern against MN in dome is to panic, start flinging the ball around, and after a while it's either an interception or Favre sacked/fumbles.
Irrelevant who is coaching. Happened with Holmgren, happened with Sherman, and I doubt McCarthy is any different.
Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.
Cincinnati forced to kick a 51yd FG and miss. Small victories...
Chargers got a stop! Chargers got a stop! They held them to a 60 yard drive and a field goal attempt! Way to go D!
Hey, at least Shayne Graham just missed the long field goal and the Chargers should have some decent field position now.
Is Portis injured? Betts seems to be toting the rock.
re: 70
No, they kicked, and missed, the FG. However, MacCallister was offsides, giving Tennessee a first down.
Portis is out with a hand- return questionable.
Portis got his neck twisted behind his head by #97 (15 yard PF) and then on a botched WR screen it looked like he got hurt blocking/diving for the incomplete pass.
The production and commentator crew is terrible for Jags-Texans. I mean, i know it's the Texans, but still... "Fountain of Ruth"? We've already heard the phrase "knee-high" (as in "short") four or five times in the first half.
This just in, Matt Jones is tall!
Portis out with a broken right hand.
re: 77
Thanks. I was prepared to be particularly impressed with Fishers' guts.
Titans fans really need to lay off Jeff Fishers. He's a solid coach.
Colts in the 2 minute drill. Anyone want to bet against points being scored?
Texans just intercepted it (again) - play by play misidentified him as Wilford (hello... one is white). And it took them forever to realize that it had been intercepted. When the official is wildly signalling first down for the other team, there is no need to keep asking aloud "Was it wrestled away? Did he intercept it?" The answer is, yes.
Marvin Harrison gets his first catch of the game with 1:40 left in the first half.
The NFL is in the Twilight Zone today. A kicker missed a FG against the Eagles, who then recover a fumble for a TD, Billy McMullen has 2 TDs for the Vikings, TEN is 26 - 7 up against Baltimore, Houston is 10-3 up against JAX, MIA is 13-0 up against Kansas.
I know he's not a favourite here, but Dan Dierdorf is absolutely right about Sam Adams; the numbers on his jersey need to be bigger.
TD San Diego.
Someone forgot to tell the chargers they're playing the 2005 Cincinnati Bengals.
Horse collar...called! Trotter.
Bills score a defensive TD after a forced fumble. Long, long run - closest tacklers were Peyton and Addai.
Bethel Johnson is DESTROYING Patrick Dendy. It's beyond ridiculous. All he does is take off at the line of scrimmage and Johnson rainbows one out there.
Schottenheimer has GOT TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. How can anyone keep their job when the employees keep FAILING in such obvious fashion????
Nothing but bad karma today. Now Ravens RB Musa Smith is carted off the field after a late head-shot by Keith Bullock.
And the Vikings return to their dump pass ways, and promptly stop moving.
Wow, took over an hour for the Mullencamp song to show up (and its even a new video to go with it).
Glimmer of hope. Ravens TD McNair to Mugheli. Missed tackle by Tenn. LB. 30 yards.
re: 93
We had Mellencamp twice in the first 15 minutes of the Colts/Bills game. One was the old version, didn't watch the other.
Dave Garrard and Jack Del Rio "just had a moment" on the sideline. You would think this was Oakland-San Francisco or something.
Worst. One-Minute Drill. Ever. Unless they score on this hail-mary.
Vikings huddle - "who's covering Driver?"
Wow. Favre throws a bullet to Driver who goes 82 yards for the TD.
His accuracy ain't what it used to be but he can still drill it.
Kerney (chest) is questionable for the second half. Falcons defense is accepting walk-ons.
And to think, I almost started Vick over Carson Palmer today.
That's the 2nd giant screw up by the secondary this year by the Vikings (that I remember anyway). Last one was in the Seattle game.
bad call in Falcons game...but Vick got hit hard.
Schaub is in for the Falcons, after Vick takes a late hit.
Jets got screwed bigtime by the refs (that's happened before). Hobson hits Brady as he throws, pass intercepted and returned to around the NE 30, but refs call roughing the passer on Hobson. I don't know what he's supposed to do on that play, he hit Brady while he still had the ball. Every week it seems in the NFL there's a terrible roughing the QB call, I don't know what the defenseive player is supposed to do.
NE ends up kicking a FG, instead of INT bringing Jets into FG position, probably at least a 6 point swing on a bad penalty call.
How often does a team play better than their average when they were blown out the week before? Think how bad Tenn. looked against Jax last week and how much better they're plaing today.
Sand Deigos's Secondary sucks. Hard.
9 for 22? Can we puy Schaub back in?
Eagles back to their old ways, 2:33 to play + a timeout with the ball on the 'skins 45 and I'm told its raining heavily; Incomplete, Incomplete, Incomplete, Punt. 18 seconds off the clock. GAH!
You see you got to keep Garrard at QB...because he does not lose and the Jags need to not change horses midstream or some such nonsense...
So much for Harrison always taking a dive after a catch. Nice twisting and turning through the middle after that catch.
Can we say the Texans own the Jaguars now? And the Jags receivers this game are bush, bush league. Garrard has played well enough but there have been two inexcusable drops, one on third down and one directly leading to an INT.
Oh, I can't wait to see the replay of this last play of the half in the Browns-Falcons game, although the result was nothing.
This Colts offense is so much fun to watch. Wayne with a great sideline catch, Addai sprints untouched into the end zone.
Nice to find a defensive line that the Colts O-line can blow wide open.
What do the Jags have to do to get a call to go their way??
How many dropped TD passes is that for Atlanta now?
Rollo--
So a win, and a 7-point lead at halftime amounts to "owning" a team now?
Question: After his 50 yd run, Dillon did not receive any carries in the first half. is he hurt?
And now the Bills return the kickoff to the Colts' 12. Oy.
(Is there any way to skip the comment preview?)
Jaguars seem to be leaving one receiver open on every passing play, but blanketing everybody else. Maybe they should start covering *all* of the texans. Just a thought.
NFL gamecenter: 4-5-NE 33 (13:05) (Shotgun) C.Pennington punts 29 yards to NE 4, Center-N.Mangold, downed by NYJ.
wow! didn't know Pennington could punt !!
Marlin Jackson down for the Colts, injury timeout. Just what they need, a thinner defense.
112:
I didn't realize a win and a 7-point lead at halftime one year amounted to "owning" a division "rival."
Jags really, really need to buckle down on defense. They are allowing a lot of first downs and their offense just isn't getting enough chances. And while one of Garrard's INTs was undeserved, one of his completions should have been an INT, so it works out.
i see this on NFL gamecenter: NE 71-Hochstein eligible and there is no Ben Watson sighting on the stats sheet.
We live in a strange world!
Announcers in the Philly game are wrong. Redskins were correct to go for it at 4th and 7 on the Phi 37. They are down by two touchdowns for crying out loud!
And of course Philly was forced to punt. They are not rescinding their stupid comments.
Sam - leading the series 5-4, with the difference in W-L records coming into the game, and leading in the half here - yes, if you take into account the difference in performance.
Examples of 106:
Last week Jax destroys Tenn., today Tenn. is embarrassing Balt.
Last year week 16: Pitt 41, Clev 0; but week 17: Clev 20, Balt 16.
Earlier this year Jax 9, Pitt 0, then shortly thereafter, Jax gets scorched a couple times, by Wash and I think KC.
I know FO considers variance in their analysis, I guess I'm just suggesting that, as a rule, you don't want to face an opponent who was humiliated last week.
Wow. They actually call a pick play on the offense. They call that maybe what, once a year or so??
It was a good call but talk about a rarity.
The Jets definitely got screwed on the call against Hobson. Somehow my first attempt at commenting on it didn't register.
I just turned the TV on...good lord, what is going on? The Browns, Titans and Jets are winning? The Bills are hanging with Indy?
Neutral-zone infraction on Bobby McCray. Problem: McCray wasn't IN THE NEUTRAL ZONE when the OT moved. Officials' success rate on calling intentional grounding: 1/4. on Calling offnensive PI: about 1/5. On calling a Texans DL for clubbing a Jags' OL WHO WASN'T EVEN LOOKING AT HIM about 10 seconds after the whistle: 0/1.
Re: 130
The Ravens actually scored the last 10 points to sort of make it a game.
Garrard has 3 INTs. Yeah, Matt Jones shares the blame for 2 of them, but it's not like he's really looked good. Can we see Byron Leftwich or even Quinn Gray please?
Matt Jones is now directly responsible for two JAX interceptions, and he's their best receiver so far. If the Texans don't turn the ball over I think they easily win this game.
Green bay starts 2nd half with nothing, nothing, pass for 13 yards to someone other than Driver. Then nothing, nothing, and here's another 3rd down...
I've never really seen a "Saunders" offense until this season, but color me completely unimpressed. Yes, Brunell stinks, but, hey, then tell Gibbs to change QBs.
Redskins playcalling is atrocious. They end up in way too many 3rd & 7, at which point I turn to my wife and say "dump off to the RB in the flat for 4 yards, coming up." And that's exactly what happens.
Except they switched it up on me in the 2d quarter, and started HANDING OFF on 3rd and 7+... including 3rd and 10 inside of 2 minutes left.
We ran a more explosive offense on my 7th grade team that I QB'd.
Oh, and no one's really fooled by the Randel El pass anymore. That works when you run it 4 times a season, not every single game. But I guess Saunders calls it b/c Randel El throws a much better deep ball than Brutal, er, Brunell does.
I'll say it again, this Redskins team doesn't do a single thing well except avoid the INTs. Unfortunately they avoid them on Defense also.
The Hobson play was a penalty. It's being called like that everywhere this season.
Meanwhile, the Jets are moving the ball extremely well against the Pats. They even made up for Coles dropping a big pass. Umm... Pats offense? Hello? Where are you?
What in the heck is going on with roughing the passer calls? Can't touch them anymore?
Chester Taylor CANNOT block
Buffalo with a fake punt for 1st down on 4th and 1.
Anyone watching the SF-Lions game?
Kitna got absolutely annihilated on the first play of the second half.
A long delayed corner blitz from his front side that he somehow never saw at all, and he just got destroyed. Fumble and SF recovery.
Gore is dominating otherwise, and somehow the SF defense is working on 1.5 straight games of being not awful.
Yet another Lelie drop?
Has Washington been giving the Eagles recievers this big of a cushion the entire game?
Nightmare!!! 3 games shown on Thanksgiving, and I've just come to the terrible realisation that it's my girlfriends' birthday!!!
Martin wide open and pass is wide. Sigh....
James- the only solution is to dump your girlfriend. :)
Randy Cross, master of the English language:
Tony Dungy was "exactly kinda like he is as a coach."
Phantom roughing call against the Colts. Crazy the flag rules that are being called now.
Best 2 plays on Jags Offense so far: 2 Garrard runs for first down. Garrard is just not a good down-field passer--bad reads, bad throws.
The best throws Garrard has made are flat-routes to Jones-Drew, who has about half of Garrard's completions.
What an amazing play by Greg Jennings. Makes a fine catch who then laterals to Driver who takes it 27 yards further downfield.
Vikings challenging call stating that Jennings was down.
He didn't look down to me. Waiting for replay.
Charger offense is coming back.
Nice special teams play by the Ravens, finally. Tenn. pinned back their 2 yard line.
Everytime McNabb is under center, then steps away, I always think he's about to vomit.
Another interesting tidbit from the SF-Det game. SF has been getting all the borderline calls, but nothing outrageously wrong (sort of like last super bowl). Detroit used both challenges in the first half, and both were probably right, but were so close I can't fault the refs for not overturning them.
But Roy Williams just sort of caught a pass over the middle but never had possession pretty clearly, but they ruled a catch and fumble SF recover. Detroit can't challenge, and I think this one would be overturned.
Hunter Smith earns a 1st down for the Colts by taking a roughing the kicker call.
Definately a nice play by Jennings. *sigh* I miss the Vikings D.
So when is it OK to go low against a passer? When it's a Jags QB or what?
And why the hell are the Jags going pass-whacky? HELLO CARL SMITH: THE PASSING GAME IS NOT WORKING! YOUR QB HAS A COMPLETION % CLOSE TO 40% THE WHOLE GAME. Blame whoever you want for the 3 INTs, but YOUR PASSING GAME HAS 3 INTs! RUN THE DAMN FOOTBALL! It's the freaking TEXANS for Pete's sake!
Oh announcer fun from Bil Maas. He said "Alex Smith can see the defensive players this year".
That REALLY explains those 11 INTs from last season doesn't it.
Not down, ruling stands. Minnesota fans outraged but it wasn't that hard a call to make.
Add in facemask penalty and ball at MN seven yard line.
SD score again and are down only 7 points. Whatever Marty said at half time it's working so far.
its 3rd and 10, so of course its a huge packer gain into the red zone. Vikings are challenging a lateral... but it would appear to be a first down either way.
Vikings defense on 3rd and long has been atrocious.
Rocco,
The thought has (briefly) occurred to me.
I know, I'm a bad man.
That play to the WAS 2 cannot stand! BS call.
Westbrook caught the ball, was on the ground and then lost it trying to get back up. Then a WAS player recovered but another player may have hit it while he was out of bounds.
Tauscher down. Cripes. And now he is headed for the locker room.
Very conservate playcalling down near the goal line.
And then the field goal ricochets through. Geez.....
If you think that seeing Christmass ads a week before Thanksgiving is a travesty, complain to mastercard.com, bestbuy.com and garmin.com. Personally, I'm boycotting all three, not that I ever heard of garmin before...
4th and long 1 on the Cleveland 30; Falcons are going for it after the Cleveland TO.
I'd never heard that penalty before either. Not actually a facemask, but a 'helment in the grasp' or somesuch. My guess is he got his hand on the edge of the helmet when pulling backwards.
153:
Every time I see the Jags go for a 40-yard pass on 1st down, I always think I'm about to vomit.
GAME OVER SCREW YOU RON WINTER! THAT IS EITHER INCOMPLETE OR FUMBLE AND WASHINGTON BALL, YOU WEREN'T LOOKING AT THE SAME REPLAY YOU ABORTION OF AN NFL REFEREE!
JASON CAMPBELL TIME AND GAH!
James:
You can always get back together with her after the games. Just try to avoid a messy breakup.
#166 : You'd hate the UK. They probably started Xmas ads before Halloween.
The "Holiday" lane at Macys (even though it only seems to be a Xmas lane) was amusing.
Philip Daniels did a good job getting his hands up and forcing McNabb's pass to go high.
Holy cow... I've never argued for them to invoke "football move" but that play was CRYING out for them to say "incomplete because he never made a football move".
Atlanta is hilarious, stupid play call on 4th and 1, followed by an awful pick.
And Vick forces the INT...Browns ball at 2.
159: Actually, it wasn't a facemask penalty. The referee said the defender tackled Driver by the opening in his helmet. I think he meant the earhole. I've never seen that penalty called before. Of course, I can't ever remember seeing a player tackled by someone grabbing his earhole.
Eagles had first and goal at the 1-yard line, and can't get it done. Here comes Akers.
Just getting text of plays. Tell me Troy Williamson didn't drop a 3rd down pass...
Marko.
I saw that penalty called last week when someone tackled Clinton Portis.
David Carr is down.
re: 179 Well, it was thrown about 2 yards behind him on a cross route. I really can't fault him for missing that one. That was all Brad.
If the Bills pull this off, it's the pass defense that won it for them. They've done a great job of keeping the Colts offense to short gains.
Man, Renaldo Hill just laid a brutal legal hit.
Sack at the goal line...but no safety...here comes the challenge by Mora.
You're kidding. From cnnsi: NWE: 2nd & Goal on NYJ 40
Is that right?
Packers got away with one. Somebody moved early on the O-line but no call.
"When we left [for commercial] David Car was flat on his back, now he's trying to loosen up on the sideline."
Learn some anatomy fellas. Your knees, belly, and face are not on your back. Therefore, if someone is on his knees, forehead to the ground, he is not flat on his anything, and certainly not on his back.
Sage Rosenfels is remaining in the game after the mandatory 1 play.
This is getting old. 3rd and 8 and the Vikings give up another big 3rd down. Green Bay has now converted 8 of 14, with 2 of those they failed to were at the goal line on 3rd and short.
I'm all for GB constantly trying a Green run on 3rd and short, but you'd think they'd stop doing that when it's only worked like once this game.
And now the pack has 3rd and 1, and don't convert. The solution must be to not play so hard on 1st and second downs and let them get closer...
Well, I wonder if the fan base is happy. McCarthy continues to run on short yardage, and the Vikngs (see Pat Williams) destroys the play each time.
Interesting illegal formation penalty on Scott Young, the Eagles guard. On the third down play, he declared himself as an eligible receiver (TE), then on the ensuing FG try, he cam back in as a guard, but didn't report as an ineligible receiver or sit out a play. I guess that's the danger with teams increasingly using O-lineman as tight ends and fullbacks.
Then the Eagles took a timeout, for some reason.
BS late-hit-out-of-bounds call. Gado had one foot just barely on the OB line when the CB started his dive - no way the CB could have been sure.
Brady is being booed after being sacked on consecutive plays, largely because of the sloppy field conditions.
San Diego looks like they'll get credit for McCardell's outstanding catch...no safety in Atlanta.
Uh, what the hell? That was a safety?
Losman taken down for a huge loss that should have been a fumble.
3rd and 21 coming up. Colts, please cover Lee Evans.
A little Jerious Norwood would be nice for ATL right about now.
Rossum returns the punt to the Cleveland 12
Here is what I am so mad about.
McNabb makes a good scramble, throws to Westbrook at the 2 yardline who falls down making the catch. As he is tucking the ball into his stomach it comes out and he is touched by Sean Taylor. The ball looked like it wasn't touched as both players went out of bounds, and Lemar Marshall comes over and picks it up.
Ruling on the field is "down by contact". I thought it would be hard to overturn by the lame brain referee. In fact he should've just said it was "inconclusive". But he went on to explain Westbrook was "down by contact", which is a BOLD FACED LIE!
Now, as a Redskin fan I would want it ruled a fumble and turnover. A little generous but I thought that would be a fair call, seeing as how Westrbook was "touched down" without possession.
As a football fan I thought they could invoke the "football move" rule, in fact it was the perfect time to fairly invoke football move, because Westbrook didn't do anything except butch tucking the ball into his stomach. It's just about the one moment where the NFL could invoke the "football move" rule and it wouldn't be a screw job.
Regardless... I blew up all over the FOMB. Why are they re-kicking the FG after 10 minutes? I just spent 15 minutes typing this message and they haven't even kicked off yet.
Anyway... I don't see how that ruling should stand. On the field it should've been incomplete because he lost the ball going to the ground.
Post 190:
Mike McCarthy was absolutely REAMED by the fans/media for not running on 1st and goal at the Buffalo game. One has to wonder if it isn't affecting his judgement here.
Norwood is inactive today after getting his knee twisted in Detroit.
San Diego scores again
I am really surprised by the Packers defensive line on the QB. In recent years the Vikings O-line has absolutely stone-walled the Packers defense. At times they looked to be playing pattycake.
Two bad Defenses = A shootout in Cincinnati.
The Falcon's Jenkins tried his best to drop that one, but he ended up making a good play and scored.
Jenkins manages to make an incredible catch and dives into the endzone; it's a game in Atlanta as well.
Its game over in Minnesota. The vikings offense woke up briefly in the 2nd quarter but has put itself back to sleep. There are no signs of life, and the Viking defense does not seem up to coaxing a turnover out of the packers. Green Bay will score this next series to put it away.
Brunell with a pick-six
And the Bengals return the favor.
RE 203: that sucks, he's gotta be the 2nd most exciting player to watch for ATL.
who is not covering Chad Johnson?
Damn it Vikings. Now its 3rd and 9, bad move!
Any time I look at the KC game on the NFL Scoreboard it says "D.Huard pass incomplete... "
SD score, and on Cincy's 1st play, no one covers Chad Johnson AGAIN, and he catches a 74yd pass for the TD.
SD's defense are stood on the field arguing with one another over who blew the coverage.
The big story this week is going to be Chad Johnson's alleged "return to form". Except the only reason he's "returning to form" is that NO SD CORNERBACKS GO WITHIN TEN YARDS OF HIM.
Colts fumble.
Bills have 9 first downs, Colts 22, and Bills are down by 1 with the ball.
Ocho Cinco is the hombre.
I haven't been impressed by Philly either. Washington seems to be moving the ball well between the 30s on their dumb short passes to Betts/Portis, screens and KC-like tossouts. Although the PHI penalty is also a good play.
a Mike Furrey sighting for Detroit.
Qn: What is the single game receiving yards record?
Willis Who?
*#$*@#($ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Garrard, stupid pass into the endzone, INT. *sigh* He forgot the game plan: only qb rushes, hand-offs, and dumpoff passes are allowed!!
The Colts are GIVING this game away.
Rhodes fumble that should have been challenged...total train wreck.
The Skins season is as the french say... OVER. The fumble call going against them was tough.
Jason Campbell, please pick up your playbook for next week.
Freeney gets his first full sack of the year. Good timing.
FG likely, Bills up by 2 if so.
222 - I believe it is "Flipper" Anderson with about 330 yards from Jim Everett for the rams vs the saints in the late 80s..
McNair's revenge not looking so hot right now...
Colts dodge the bullet, FG misses wide right. Phew.
137, 138:
I think that was a terrible call and the reason is that they called Hobson for driving Brady into the ground but if you watch the replay Brady jumped before he threw the ball. The defender cannot help but drive the QB into the ground under those circumstances.
Norwood should be back in a week or two unless the Atlanta docs have missed the diagnosis. However, I won't rule that out.
Well, the Jets have just put the final nail in the Pats coffin.
17-6.
Nick Hardwick down for San Diego, and it didn't look pretty. Someone fell on his ankle, and it went a long way.
4 interceptions. Seriously. And it looks like Garrard will remain the QB. JDR is really, really stubborn.
Story of this game: soft defense by Bills makes Colts go with countless short plays, combined with aggressive attempts to force turnovers.
With that many opportunities to strip the ball, some of them work.
J. Allen Recovered fumble for -23 yds
-23? I know it's not kosher to complain about HOW your team recovers an opponents fumble, but wow.
3rd down and 10, Brunell takes the snap and immediately throws a five yard slant to Lloyd.
Free Jason Campbell. Really.
228. Thanks
3 yard slant into man coverage for the skins on 3rd and 7...
This has probably been said, but "David Garrard just wins"
Be nice if the offense rewards this defensive effort with some points. Either GB has adjusted their coverage or MN has forgotten about Bethel Johnson.
Four sacks today and that blitz by Hawk was impressive. He beat McKinnie who can play a little.
Brady throws another pick.
What the hell is going on with him?
The chew the clock strategy by the Colts has me nervous. If the Bills get the ball back with a chance to go ahead, I want as much time on the clock as possible for the offense to come back and score again.
240 might have the numbers right and mine might be wrong. But the point is that Brunell is an idiot.
Field position game in Atlanta: Browns had it in the first half; not in the second.
Fred Taylor has found the FOuntain of Ruth. Again. I didn't knolw we were looking for it.
OK, both yahoo and nfl.com gamecats are messed up for the KC game. A minute ago KC had it in their own territory, then all of a sudden they have a TD, but the drive is only 20 yds long.
What happened?
Tauscher out with a knee injury and Moll is not having much success with anything.
Scott Pioli will sleep well tonight. With ZERO down field receiving threats for the Pats and ONE 40+ yds pass for the season, there is something terribly anameic about the Pats passing game.
Hey, Tom - there is no need to leave money on the table, next time. The Pats will not be spending money on positions not named QB, DE.
Re 242:
Well, it's entirely possibly that Brad has forgotten these receivers can actually catch today. Since it hasn't been true until today, it probably just hasn't sunk in yet.
Chargers score again. 38-35.
Personal foul on Kellen Winslow - late hit on Chris Crocker (ex-Brown)
WOW. The Jets defense is worse than I thought.
Packers begging Vikings to steal the game. The defense cannot be expected to shut the Vikings out the entire second half. The secondary has a history of giving up ridiculous plays.
3 chain measurements in this game, Colts have gotten 1st on each.
Wow. LT shakes off the facemask. Some nice power-running.
Sage Rosenfels is still in the game for the Texans.
Badger, you really give the Vikings O too much credit.
and what the HELL was that??? pick by Pack.
255 - you do not understand this vikings "offense". They got shut out for the last 95% of the game by the 49ers.
I'm so pleased to say for all Colts fans out there that Dwight Freeney has TRIPLED his season sack total in just one game! Not many players could claim that could they? Just one more sack and he'll have increased his sack record five-fold! Well done Dwight!
Wow, perfect strike by Brad Johnson! Hit Dendy in stride... beautiful.
No, the Packer seondary is REALLY that bad. They have already given up more plays in excess of 20 yards on passes then they did all last year.
Oh, now I get it. The Allen fumble recovery was scored wrong, and KC started at the MIA 20.
Palmer fumble. Tomlinson TD.
Chargers sack Palmer, force the fumble and recover the ball inside the Bengal 10.
LT takes the 1st snap in and if the XP is good SD are up for the first time today, 42-38.
Colts win, got the last 1st down they needed.
You have GOT to be kidding me. Delay of game???'
Geez Brett......
250, Pats recievers have been wide open. Brady has just been AWFUL the last two weeks.
That pick in the second half, not only did he throw behind the WR, he threw behind the DB trailing the WR, and the DB barely got a hand on it.
244: You haven't seen the Bills much this season, have you?
Lions have gotten ref hosed today big time...every questionable call has gone to SanFran.
Colts are going to run out the clock against Buff. Lucky win.
As for the Vikings, they weren't gonna accomplish anything even if they made the playoffs. I was a Brad Johnson fan/defender before this downturn, but honestly even if he played up to expectation, it wasn't going to be that great. Hell, he's older than Favre.
Its time to play Jackson.
Bubba Franks?? He has been MIA all season.
Excellent first down run by Kevin Barlow.
Which surface is worst? Gillete Field or the seams of Vet Stadium?
Jags with a big stop on 3rd down, then let the clock tick tick tick tick tick down. Why?
Andre Davis has been all over the field for the Browns
Wow, the Colts moved again without telling anyone? Enberg retitled them the Baltimore Colts.
4th and 2 on KC 37 for Miami. Up by 3, 3:27 to go. What do you do?
53-yd FG? (Does Mare have the leg?)
Go for it?
Short punt?
Ruvell Martin takes a HUGE shot but holds on. Driver was OUT of the game on third down. What's up with THAT???
Ageless Andersen closes the gap to 1 in Atlanta
OK, they choose to punt it. Net 23 yds.
The Vikings will get the ball back, make a few noises like they are an offense, then on 3rd and inches Johnson will hit Williamson wide open who drops it. On 4th and inches, he will throw 35 yards downfield and out of bounds.
If the Pats Defense can hold the Jets, it is going to come down to SG's FG try. Is he ready?
If he fails, the entire Boston media is going to talk about AV for the next week.
271: I don't know if it was a "lucky" win. All the luck went against the Colts and they still won, largely due to Manning never ever making mistakes and the Bills offense being worse than Rutgers.
all games close but Washington-Philly....
Detroit needs to do something here..
If I was a Lions fan who was actually still rooting for the team to win I'd be super pissed about this game.
Minnesota challenging call. Why? Looks pretty obvious to me but then I have yet to see a slow-mo.
Joseph Addai is on pace for 1000 yards for the first time this season. He's not getting many opportunities, but he has a nice 4.8 yards a carry. He might be second in ROTY balloting.
TJ Duckett sighting. Stop the presses.
Reggie Williams is KILLING his team! That is the 2nd huge play wiped out by a boneheaded penalty. Cortez Hankton had a 30+ yard catch on 3rd and 10, WIlliams busted for offensive PI away from the ball. Stupid Stupid Stupid. 3rd and 20, incomplete and now 4th and 20. I guess that's wh you save your timeouts.
If Enberg were a horse, he would have been in a glue bottle a long time ago...the guy should be in a home, not broadcasting FB games.
Ruled a catch. Dumb challenge. Childress getting no help from his coaches upstairs.
Quenitin Jammer finally makes a play. In the 4th quarter.
Detroit moving the ball the old-fashioned way...letting San Fran commit penalties.
Kinda wish I could watch the San Diego/Cinci game...
great pass d by jammer on houshmanzadeh, and h drops the next pass. that's huge for the bolts.
Down 4 the Bengals punt, and unless their D does something very different, it's the ball game.
This is our country.
Winslow just made a sick catch.
40+ grab by Cortez Hankton but offensive pass interference penalty on Reggie Williams negates it. The inexperience/immaturity of the Jaguars WRs has killed them today - Jones has dropped 3 easy catches as well, and a Williams holding penalty killed a run to the 2 on a drive ending in an INT.
