Viva New Mexico!

Garcia v Romo!

Maybe Football will one day take off in some other country. Wait. Is Canada officially a country yet or are they still a territory?

by morganja (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 6:04pm

From the Panther site:

Football controversy in Carolina. Who should start at QB in New Orleans, Chris Weinke or Deangelo Williams?

Of course if you are like the rest of the country and saw the Patriots-Jags instead of the Falcons-Panthers, not as funny.

THIS IS OUR COUNTRY

5
by andrew (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:12pm

Technical difficulties halfway through the "Our country" ad on NBC's HD feed on DirecTV. I don't blame their engineers if they suffered a seizure or something during that.

OTOH It's cowboys to the 40 and still no HD feed...

One the things that I hate about these national broadcasts is that the announcers feel to the need to repeat all of this crap that's been said 10,000 times before. Does anyone not know the circumstances in which Romo became the Cowboys starting QB? Enough already Al. Give us the play by the play and shut yer big stupid mouth.

7
by andrew (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:13pm

Why is Dallas still having Julius Jones in at the start of games...

8
by Boston Dan (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:14pm

As I was saying, if Madden has to strain to point out that this matchup is finally about the football and not the sideshows, than it's not really about the football for this network and these moronic announcers.

If they don't want the game to be about TO, why do they keep talking about him?

11
by Harris (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:20pm

Not the play I'd have called on 3rd-and-1, but ya' can't argue with success. Plus, Reid calls a run on 3rd-and-1!

RE: 7: I think this year has been the proving year that Barber should be the starting back. I like Jones, but I feel like the Dallas offense moves better with Barber in the game.

by Crus, UK (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:25pm

Looks like the Eagles OL is having problems sustaining blocks, which is a credit to the Dallas DL.

14
by Harris (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:27pm

I didn't realize Schobel was still on the team. Hot Damn.

15
by andrew (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:27pm

As I muse about it, I have to think the Eagles have as good a shot as anyone in the NFC to make it to the superbowl.

Of course, the NFC has had a "Best team of the NFC" of the week for about a month now every week.

great catch by Schoebel.

16
by Stereochemistry (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:27pm

Damn I'd love to see Garcia on the Bucs roster next season. Even if he only plays a year or two and the Bucs draft a QB to groom behind him.

17
by Boston Dan (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:28pm

I am one of the people that thought Garcia was all done after seeing him play for the Browns and Lions.

He is playing better than what, at least half of the other QBs that have started games in the NFL this season?

18

Cowboys in giving mood today...

re: #13

And than Westbrook got to the outside...

20
by Crus, UK (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:30pm

I think we will live or die with our Defence, which I guess is a common situation.

Looks like our Offence has found some consistency but I'm not sure they've got quite enough to win a shootout.

21
by andrew (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:31pm

I think Minnesota will also go after him, as Childress seeks another veteran who knows the west coast offense... (and it would be a pretty smooth transition for him)...

So they didn't go for it on 4th-and-3 from the 40, but they go for it now?

26
by Broker (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:36pm

A perfect example of what Romo gives Dallas that Bledsoe did not. Good dodge of the potential sack. Drew would have just eaten the ball.

27

Interesting play call on 4th down. And by "interesting", I mean "stupid".

30
by Boston Dan (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:43pm

The way #46 for Dallas allowed Quintin Mikell for the Eagles to run by, it looked as if he has wearing blinders.

by Harris (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:44pm

I agree they should have spread out the defense, but the FB missed his block. Mikkel is a backup, but still would have behooved the Cowboys to block him. Happily, they didn't.

32
by James, London (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:45pm

Happy Xmas to all!. Now the visitors have buggered off, I can watch some football. Stallworth makes a nice catch as I turn on.

33
by sophandros (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:45pm

The story so far:

Local product scores against home team (Schobel is TCU grad), Dallas stuffed, ex-Saint has huge gain in helping his former team clinch a first round bye.

I like it.

34
by Crus, UK (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:48pm

Andy Reid takes a timeout to watch a replay of what the announcers were saying about him

35
by Rocco (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:51pm

#31-

True, but they'd just tried to run it twice and failed miserably. If they're going to run, they should have spread it out, rather than tossing to the weak side against a fast defense. Why not go 5-wide and use the Steve McNair/Elway QB draw inside the 5?

36
by sophandros (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 7:59pm

Did you guys notice how Madden made a FO-esque comment during the Eagles' first drive? He commented that it was more significant that Philly were accumulating first downs and how that demoralizes defenses. He went on to say that the Eagles offense was playing efficiently, and said something about how important that is.

I was pleasantly surprised that he said something more than "Boom!" or "Pow!"

37
by sophandros (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 8:00pm

And then Al starts the Romo/Underwood (Carrie, not Blair) rumors.

39

Dimitri Underwood?

40
by Rocco (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 8:06pm

Is Carrie Underwood a big enough star to submarine Romo's career if they start dating?

41
by Harris (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 8:09pm

More importantly, is Blair Underwood a big enough star to do the same?

42
by Crus, UK (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 8:19pm

I hope for the sake of you guys' sanity you didn't just get "our country"'d three times in a minute, with all those ad breaks.

TO at Safety? That's different.

44

And the Eagles didn't mangle the 2-minute offence? It must be Christmas.

45

Have two whiter, goofier looking QBs than Garcia and Romo ever faced each other?

Deceptively fast

47

You're probably right, but that's not fair. The Mannings are missing the same chromosome. It took two sets of cousins to produce Garcia and Romo.

52
by BadgerT1000 (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 8:53pm

Somrbody explain to me why the Eagles can't win the NFC? Because with the Bears injuries there is no sure thing. The Saints are solid but this Philly D can give anyone a game.

Reid is solid. Special teams have their moments. So why not?

53

54

55

If the Eagles keep blocking the opposition's best pass-rusher with L.J Smith and a back, they can't win the NFC.

57

60
by Rocco (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 9:08pm

To quote a friend of mine who's a rabid/angry Cowboys fan, "Romo can only cover up so much for the five jackasses up front." He usually uses worse words for the o-line, so he must be in the Christmas spirit.

61
by Broker (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 9:09pm

How long until Parcells comes unglued? O-line looks like crap, and the defense looks below average today. I think Dallas has been reading their own press clippings.

62
by Harris (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 9:15pm

Hey refs, how about we even up on these calls? You missed an obvious hold on first down and, frankly, an obvious hold on 2nd down. Yeah, that was a personal foul, but this is getting ri--goddamn-diculous. If not for the hold you didn't call that's probably a clean sack.

63

70

Romo may end up Dallas' leading rusher.

71

73

75
by young curmudgeon (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 10:10pm

Boy, am I looking forward to the NFC playoffs, where I get to watch Dallas and (as things evidently stand now) the Giants. The way those two teams have played lately, I'm expecting evocations of the Noll Steelers, the Walsh 49ers, or the Lombardi Packers. At least in the AFC, the potential wild card teams are somewhat interesting to watch, albeit flawed. (Disclaimer--I only saw the Jets in the game vrs. New England, I don't know if they are all that interesting or not, but they have to be more fun to watch than the other team in the Meadowlands.)

#73-

Given how things have gone for the NFC, isn't that the last things Iggles fans want to hear? I think every team that's been anointed "the team to beat" in the NFC has fallen flat the next week.

79
by young curmudgeon (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 10:38pm

re 78: Quite right, Rocco--by "for real," I of course mean "have played well in the last few games and are therefore due to falter horrendously like the essentially mediocre bunch they are." This, it seems, is the working NFC definition of "for real" this season.

80
by James, London (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 10:50pm

Joey Harrington just described Chris Chambers as a "Silent Assassin.

Given he's killed the 'Fins all season, this sounds like a fair description.

Miami get a generous spot for a 1st down, and Chris Chambers catches one. It must be Xmas!

81

89
by James, London (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 11:23pm

Two monumental plays for Miami.
3rd & 1, and they're pinged for Intentional Grounding, which Harrington has the cheek to complain about. A lineman then has 15 yds tacked on for Unsportsmanlike conduct, and then a player injures himself covering a non-returned punt. Just outstanding.

90
by Sophandros (not verified) :: Mon, 12/25/2006 - 11:27pm

Theisman's a jackass. You can't spend the entire first half pointing out every drop by a Dolphin receiver, then open the second half talking about how the quarterback didn't perform and deserved to be pulled.

117

And Miami remembers it has an offense. The drive started when the Jets remembered their run defense was terrible, and stopped tackling.

119
by andrew (not verified) :: Tue, 12/26/2006 - 1:03am

ok, I guess I gotta take back some of that about Lemon. Touchdown dolphins.

Right now the difference in this game is each team completed a pass to the 3 yard line. Zach Thomas made the tackle vs the Jets' Cotchery with one ankle, the Jets had to settle for a field goal. In almost the exact same situation, the Fin's McMichael broke the tackle and scored.

120
by Starshatterer (not verified) :: Tue, 12/26/2006 - 1:04am

Coles got hit high on the torso and his head snapped as he hit the ground. Not sure how that resulted in a gash -- maybe his head hit an unpadded part of the helmet.

The Jets haven't stopped Brown all day so why the heck did the Dolphins throw deep on third and two? And I say that as Jets fan. If Miami just ran the ball on every play they'd be cruising to an easy win right now.

Why don't the Dolphins let them score here? its the only chance they have...

ACL game means you hate both teams, obviously a Boston College man would never wish for the injury of a fellow human being.

This is my first time watching MNF in a while, as I can't stand the so-called color analyst duo. I may never watch MNF again if they keep this team together.

Perhaps ESPN keeps Kornheiser on so that the viewers can all think that, if they say enough stupid things in public very loudly, they too might one day be employed by ESPN. And need Theisman to make Kornheiser look decent.

I can't think of another explanation.

(Just the latest atrociously stupid thing: They're crediting Pennington for the Jets winning drive. Hello?! Leon Washington might have had something to do with it. Ugh.)

ugh.

Tough loss for my Dolphins. The only consolation is that the jets do suck. I haven't watched too much of them, but they suck.

They can't run the ball, can't defend the run, and their QB has a noodle arm. They beat my team, but I already knew we sucked.

The NFL really needs to seed teams #4 to #6 by record.

Re #130: The Jets might suck, but they are one win away from the playoffs. And their difficulties stopping the run have been apparent all season and were on display again tonight, at least to everyone except Saban. Why the heck didn't he just run Brown every play until the Jets showed they could stop him?

BC Eagle (#128 )--

Nothing personal, but reading that from you was a laugh-out-loud moment. There's nothing like attitude from a third-rate troll.

Wait, I guess that was personal. Oh, well.

I was pulling the heel move there, glad I was able to make you laugh. Merry Christmas!

I don't even know what the hell this means, but your original comment was a despicable one.

a true crime against humanity, an abomination and affront the the english language, a truly despicable example of the depths of human depravity.

Or maybe just a throwaway comment, get a life dude.

Can someone with a recording of the Miami/Jets game go back to the few plays leading up to the the winning field goal and take a look at the timing of the play clock that is shown, compared to the seconds ticking off the game clock?

While watching the game live I swear I was able to see that the play clock was ticking at a different rate than the game clock. It appeared that the play clock second was just a fraction shorter or longer than the game clock second.

Can anyone confirm this? Is it an issue or does the league explain it away by saying that the clocks shown on the broadcasts are not necessarily accurate?

RE: 137

So if I say "I hope you die a horrible death", I suppose that's a throwaway comment too, right?

Your initial comment was despicable, and your subsequent posts make it even worse.
