This thread is for discussion of action on the field before, during, and after Week 6 of the 2006 NFL season. You can talk about who you think will win or lose before the games start and last-minute news on Sunday morning. Then during the games, discuss strange plays, great performances, and stupid announcers (of which there are plenty). After the day is done, we'll discuss the results of the week Sunday night and Monday before our weekly commentary articles appear.
A separate thread will go up Monday morning to discuss Monday Night Football so people don't ha,ve to reload all of Sunday's comments.
Please ask your fantasy football start/bench and waiver wire questions in the discussion thread for Scramble for the Ball.

what are the odds that the raiders can win today against denver?
IRC is back in business on channel #FO on server bendenweyr.dyndns.org.
#2: Zero?
Does anyone have any feel for how much Westbrook will play today?
Limited action, I read. Maybe 15-20 plays.
name drop alert: Dean LeBatard just referred to Football Prospectus on "Sports Reporters" (specifically in re: the projections that FO made about Philip Rivers being, you know a pretty good QB, when nobody had really seen him take real NFL snaps)
Westbrook is staring. However FoxSports says that he may only see limited action. I usually check www.rotoworld.com on Sunday morning (and throughout the week) to get caught up on fantasy news and its implications.
Navin, thanks.
I need help...I've got 5 good WRs going against 3 good pass defenses and 2 bad pass defenses.
S. Smith (CAR) vs BAL
P. Burress (NYG) vs ATL
M. Colston (NO)vs PHI
B. Berrian (CHI)vs ARI
L. Evans (BUF)vs DET
The talking head's advice is that Smith, Burress, and Evans are "must starts" while Colston and Berrian are also starters.
The question is which of the 2 will get the most points this week?
I'm leaning towards starting Evans and Berrian. Your thoughts please. Thanks
Mike
Werder just said that a Dallas Cowboy "veteran" referred to TO as a bucket with a hole in it. No matter how much you put in, it's never enough.
I feel the need to whine about the NFL's policy to show only two games (instead of three) when the local team is playing. Also, why not just have a double double-header each week?
Things that would need to happen for Oakland to beat Denver:
1. Randy Moss is promised a trade if he gets 200 yards, 3 touchdowns.
2. Jake Plummer trips over kicking tee, hits head and temporarily suffers amnesia back to the time he was with the Cardinals.
3. The raiders run an end around and the announcer on TV actually doesn't call it a reverse.
4.
sigh, I hate directv. well not really, but after forking out for their HDTV package and the NFL sunday ticket, I can't get the game I want in HD unless I fork out another $100... And I don't care what they say, the game I get on over the air HD always looks superior to the same game on their local HD channel.
That's a new one: The Titans are going dark and dark with their uniforms today.
Clever kickoff return in the Ravens-Panthers game... ball is bouncing, return man steps one foot OOB, fields the ball, automatic penalty on kicking team, ball spotted at 40.
And, oh, may the owners of "consumerpromotionscenter.com" rot in hell.
Eagles @ Saints or Falcons @ Giants folowed by KC @ Steelers
or Chargers @ 49ers in the UK.
Saints are looking good on this 1st drive.
Field goal, Saints. I guess I'll take it, but I have the Falcons game on TV here (just a part of the exile...). At least Just Another Falcons Fan is forced to watch the Panthers game. :)
Wow Carolina are leading 0 to -2 according to gamecenter
Why does NFL.com's gametracker say that Baltimore has -2?
Oh, and Eli threw a pick on his first pass after the Giants' defense forced Atlanta to punt.
JAFF: That kickoff play by the Ravens has totally screwed up CBSSportsline.com's GameCenter. First, they said it was a safety FOR the Ravens, and had the score 2-0 Baltimore. Now, they have Baltimore with -2 points. A first! A team with a negative score! Not even this year's Raiders have accomplished that.
And that's the Wayne Gandy that I remember from NOLA. Gives up a sack followed by a false start. Love that trade.
And Sam Madison picked off Vick in the red zone. I didn't realize that he was still in the league.
Houston recovers fumble on the 15 of Dallas up 3 - 0. 4th facemasking penalty in 5 minutes on Dallas also occurs on play.
Cute: On the Redskins first play, they are in a Full House set and run an endaround to Moss, for -1 yard.
Delhomme and MCnair exchange bad interceptions.
McNabb is taking some pretty big hits today. The Eagles need to do a better job of protecting him.
Steve Smith and Keyshawn Johnson making some big catches on this drive. Carolina with a first and goal.
The Eagles defense is not impressive so far.
Vick fumbles and Sam Madison covers. Unknown whether the fork in Madison's back deflated ball, making it easier to cover...
The reggie bush era is about to start..looks like deuce is out with an hamstring
horsecollar on bush, actually a good call.
I thought horse collar was supposed to be pulling them backwards while dragging them down, not just pulled backwards, since the legs aren't trapped at that point.
TD Saints, who looked very good on offense again.
Eli sucks.
I don't get this whole horsecollar thing. Defenders have to be allowed to tackle. I know certain tackling styles tend to cause injury, and so maybe you outlaw those, but it looked to me like the defender on Bush just grabbed his jersey and pulled him backwards. If he doesn't do that, it's a first down, and maybe a TD. If the structure of the equipment prevents the defender from tackling safely, shouldn't they change the equipment (e.g. re-design the shoulder pads) rather than changing a rule that unbalances the game even more egregiously towards offenses?
Gah. I can get the Giants on about a 2 minute delay, the Falcons broadcast was on a 15-minute delay.
Actually, I like the Panthers some. An ideal season has the Panthers as a wild-card team, with the Falcons winning it all.
Teams I despise: Washington, Dallas
Int fest: Manning 2, Vick 1 + a fumble.

Giants/Falcons is a turnover fest. Eli throws another pick.
Mcnair hurt. Boller warming up.
Steve McNair is shaken up. Boller is coming in.
Looks like Kevin Jones finally came to life and this is what went through his mind
pretty cool to have a rushing TD in the season opener ... what? the season stated five weeks back? Maybe, i will pile on the bills to make up for lost time
Looks like the Rams - seahawks game is turning into a points shootout ... fantasy owners smile at the heaven sent opportunity!
BTW, Eli Manning is 1/5 for 4 yds and 2 INTs. Guess, someone needs to tell him that the Giants game was the homecoming party (thanks to Peter King and the countless 'experts') and he needs to play at the level displayed in the PHI 4th quarter all game long and not in 4th quarters alone.
Jenkins drops a bomb at the goalline. Sigh.
Jenkins drops a bomb at the goalline. Sigh.
missed "at the PHI" in the sentence referencing Eli Manning's virtual homecoming party
St. Louis' offense looks the best it has all year. Two drives, two touchdowns...
I'm not sure what's worse, Atlanta's pass protection or their receivers' hands.
Wow DAL-HOU 2 returns fumled challenged and reversed. Good start for the Refs.
A pick and a fumble recoverd? Who woke Sam Madison?
And the Saints pass rush looks ferocious. McNabb has had very little time.
The Panthers' running game sucks. Hard. On the last drive, with first and goal at the 2 yard line, Foster had three carries, for no gain, 1 yard, and -2 yards. On the next drive, Foster fumbles on the first play, and the Ravens recover at the Panthers' 26 yard line.
David Carr has 15 yds rushing in 3 attempts while dayne has 11 of 7 attempts.
looks like carr has to throw, run the football for the texans to have a shot at winning ... maybe he needs to even get a few sacks playing the defense for a real shot !!!
And the Ravens fumble it back to the Panthers.
some help
can someone explain the following play: PENALTY on TB-B.Gradkowski, Face Mask (15 Yards), 15 yards, enforced at TB 37 - No Play.
Penalty on the QB for face mask! Am i missing something here.
Horrible pick thrown by Brees. Lito Sheppard made the play.
I think Brees expected the reciever to cut inside and he didn't.
I usually use cbssportsline.com when I need a gamecenter, but I rarely work Sundays, so I don't use it for the NFL, until today. I'm not really thrilled with the layout - the field with the drive chart is a lot bigger than it needs to be, and having a scroll-down box for the last 10 plays is just annoying.
What really strikes me, though, is the boxes at the top of the screen with the scores of the other games. They either give you the result of the last play, or the current down-distance-position. But when it's the latter, they have an extra line, and for some reason tell you the number of people viewing each game. Who wants to know that?
Ticky-tacky Offensive PI on Hank Basket. There wasn't a lot of contact.
54
Gradkowski threw a pick and got flagged for face mask on the return.....but, Gruden challenged the pick, the play was overturned, and the penalty still stood.
#59: Thanks.
But there seems to be 2 face mask penalties - one on 2nd down and one on 3rd down. that was what made me wonder.
Tiki Barber: 71 total yards
Rest of the Giants: 1 net yard
Touchdown Ravens, on a deflection in the end zone that popped way up in the air before being caught by Clayton.
and the Boller-McNair QB debate begins
Kyle Boller has 1 TD and Steve McNair has 1 INT. Some karma !
Lions line up to go for it on 4th and 1 from the Bills' 40.... and call timeout. They line up again... and Kitna commits a false start.
Yeah, Erasmus, I was thinking the same thing. The Ravens just weren't moving the ball with McNair. They look like they have more life with Boller. I thought Boller played very well at the end of last season. If he plays like that, he's much more effective than McNair is at this point.
Worst. Lead-in. Ever. - Chris Rose
Boller throws a complete fluke touchdown and we're talking about starting him again?
I suppose if you ignore the fumbled snap and the two near interceptions he threw before that.......
Reggie Bush can't pass. He's not having a lot of luck running either.
Vick sacked: 4 times
Vick pass attempts: 7
Yeah, obviously the touchdown was a fluke, but the offense seems to have more energy with Boller in there. I'm not a Ravens fan, so I don't watch all of their games, but I've seen enough of them this year (I have Sunday Ticket) to notice that.
Great pass by Delhomme to Drew Carter for the touchdown.
So people are still using Ron Dayne in short yardage situations? Have we learned nothing
Carter burned Samari Rolle on that touchdown.
Geathers is trying to one-up Kimo von Olhoeffen.
Vick does what he does best...TD Atlanta 22 yard run up the middle.
Abraham finally shows up...Giants recover the fumble after the sack, though.
John Abraham has to have more sacks per play than anyone in the NFL (3 sacks, all with a forced fumble, in 1.5 games).
Rams are on fire.
the cowboys-texans game is so boring, the announcers can't get over a long punt that happened 45 minutes ago
RE; 2
Roy Williams just destroyed some guy
RE: 16
its been done several times in previous seasons
I'd love to be watching the BAL/CAR game right now but the Redskins always trump the Ravens on tv here in northern VA. Is the Ravens' "new, revitalized" offense storyline finally starting to die? I'm wondering how many weeks of negligible offensive output it will take for the tv media to realize McNair's got nothing.
Saints go 3 & out and punt. As Wynn catches the punt one of his blockers is blocked into him and the Saints recover at the Eagles 20. New Orleans ST DVOA is gonna be good again.
Panthers tie it up at the half on a FG
Actually, the Panthers were already up by 3. Now they are up by 6.
13-7 Panthers.
saints display how punting on 4th and 1 can work out
Marcus Colston TD!!
RE: 68
Two near interceptions and a fumbled snap could just as easily describe McNair's performances this year. I'm bitterly disappointed. Another QB on the Ravens' scrap heap.
Just a reminder that IRC is open for all at channel #FO on server bendenweyr.dyndnds.org.
There are lots of people there, now, so even Bill would be satisfied :P.
It sounds pretty clear that you don't want to be the visiting team in the Superdome this year.
Yet again Ryan Moats finds a new way to get into Andy Reid's doghouse despite producing offensively. Reno Mahe must have some powerful voodoo.
wynn SUCKS. eagles must get him off special teams
My bad on the Panthers score.
I just got to see the replay on the Vick TD...who does he think he is with the gratutious flip at the end of the play, Ozzie Smith?
Basket drops another pass, (his 3rd of the 1st half) and the Saints pick it off. Fortunately for the Eagles it's a Hail Mary at the end of the half. The Eagles have been pretty poor; it looks like the have a severe case of 'after the Lord Mayors Show'.
"The Eagles have been pretty poor; it looks like the have a severe case of ‘after the Lord Mayors Show’."
James, what does that mean?
First half rush yards by Seattle: 4 yards.
Hasselback just quadrupled their total on a 17 yard scramble.
96 - re. the flip - Vick obviously didn't watch the Oklahoma game yesterday.
W.Dunn up the middle for 90 yards, TOUCHDOWN. Wow!
What a drive by the Falcons! 1 play, 90 yards, TD. A run straight up the middle by Warrick Dunn, with several missed tackles.
How did Atlanta get the ball? The Giants were supposed to get the ball to start the second half.
Judging from the box score, it looks as if Gradkowski is coming back to Earth (i.e., the Bengals studied last week's film on him), and looks like a rookie.
The bad news from that game (for me) is that Rudi hasn't done anything. The good news is that Warrick Dunn just broke off a 90 yard TD, and since he's my other RB, I'm experiencing a bittersweet moment. Actually, I'm happy for Warrick with that run because he's probably the best person that I've ever attempted to compete with.
In the Saints game, it looks like the defense is showing up, which is to be expected because the Saints braintrust came from Dallas, and they've gameplanned against the Eagles several times with mixed success. My only concern with the offense used to be their redzone efficiency, but it looks like that is getting better. Now if they can just learn how to use Reggie better as a runner...
JAFF: The Giants had the ball and then punted.
Wow, seattle just hit both goalposts on the same field goal. and then it didn't go through.
99 - Well, then they've outrushed the Bengals by a yard.
NYG-ATL is pretty fun when you have both Dunn and Barber on your fantasy team.
They're both running for something like 1000yards a pop.
What's wrong with the run D in this game?
.... and the superbowl loser curse along with the much dreaded madden curse has strated affecting the seahawks ...
Over/Under: 10 - actual no. of instances that a form of the above sentence to be used by media 'experts' in the next week
TO TD!
Touchdown, TO.
and just as TO scores, his replacement reggie brown catches a bomb from mcnabb and runs it in
Laces OUT, Dan!
oh, and that said, why are people passing so much in this game?
Todd Collins warming up for the Skins- Brunell got his toe mashed by a lineman.
109: Too many run blitzes
Kalyan: I'll take the over.
Dammit, Philly gets a 60 yard TD from McNabb to Brown.
Re 98,
Marko, it's a English expression used to describe a letdown following a big event.
Very nmuch like the Eagles being below par after the Dallas game last week.
As I write the Saints give a TD to Reggie Brown on the 1st possession of the 3rd quarter.
I just realized that Dan Morgan is out for the season......again.
That guy's got some bad luck.
TO Owens TD !!! ... and the football gods were pleased with TO ripping his receivers coach that they ... never mind!
Eli sucks but Giants are driving anyway
1-15-NYG 11 (11:47) E.Manning pass incomplete short middle to T.Barber.
2-15-NYG 11 (11:42) T.Barber left end to NYG 40 for 29 yards (D.Williams).
1-10-NYG 40 (10:59) E.Manning pass incomplete short right to A.Toomer.
2-10-NYG 40 (10:54) T.Barber up the middle to ATL 44 for 16 yards (P.Carrington).
1-10-ATL 44 (10:07) B.Jacobs up the middle to ATL 45 for -1 yards (G.Jackson).
2-11-ATL 45 (9:21) E.Manning pass incomplete short middle to B.Jacobs (K.Brooking).
and now a long PI call on atl
121: He needs to call it a career. This is his brain we're talking about.
Ah, welcome to the game Mr. Boller.
Did Eli close his eyes and flinch when he released that ball?
Re: 121:
Morgan's concussion-prone. He should probably hang up the pads.
you know what sucks? consumerpromotioncenter.com sucks.
Didn't see the interference on the Falcons. And I'm a Giants' fan.
James: Thanks. I figured it had to do with a letdown.
Adam Gretz: Please disregard what I said earlier about Boller. He's still Kyle Boller.
On a little serious note, how has the performance of Vince Young? 12/21 for 162 yds and 1 TD is not bad for a rookie.
Any comments from Titans fans?
I'm not a Titans fan, but I'm watching and I'm impressed. He's made lots of smart decisions, although he went OB on a 3rd down run rather than put his head down and try to get the yard. They went for it on 4th and got the conversion anyway.
tennessee now up 20-14
announcer just mentioned breuner's first reception of the year. which might have been true if you discount his two touchdowns earlier this year. great research
I was excited that the commentator just called an end around an end around.
Then, the next second, the color guy called it a reverse.
Seattle game, by the way.
I was scrolling thru news from college football and read that Vanderbilt defeated 16th ranked Georgia ... looks like they are missing Jay Cutler
Is the clock *supposed* to run after taking a delay of game ? (Dallas v. Houston, midway thru 3rd quarter)
Re #131
I don't think he's playing particularly better than he did last week when he went 10-21 for 63 yards. Difference is, this week the WRs are making plays and they're not running the ball as effectively. He still needs experience, but can make plays.
Geathers loves comitting personal fouls.
Long TD for Seattle. DAVE's catching up.
137: You should see what the AJC has about that today. Last week, the govenor wrote a letter to the editor about the manner in which they reported the Dawgs' (UGA grads and fans can't spell) loss to Tennessee. When UGA lost their homecoming to Vandy, well, let's just say that some of us enjoyed that...
Back to NFL action, it seems that the Giants are driving yet again on Atlanta. Neither team wants to defend the run, obviously.
Tampa Bay ties it!
Casey Kramer (from Dartmoth) just blocked a Redskins punt. Titans go up 8. Skins fans were booing BEFORE the punt was blocked.
key penalty on stoutmire gives the eagles new life. just like the old days!
(when omar was with the njg)
and tampa ties cincy
Ah, yes, the Stoutmire era.
Anyone want to cover Roy Williams? When the other WRs are Mike Furrey, Devale Ellis, and Az-Zahir Hakim-I might want to try to cover the good one a little bit better.
Not a great series so far for Omar Stoutmire. On consecutive plays he gets called for Defensive holding on 3rd down, which the Eagles failed to convert, and on the very next play he misses a tackle on Matt Schobel, who takes the catch 40 yards.
Giants/Falcons match:
Maybe it is a bad idea to give the defense a break on the running situations.
How about some defenders showing up on runplay?
Maybe they're worried about Mike Furrey's deceptive speed.
and I am pretty sure Moorman is ROBO-PUNTER
Morris just got the longest run of the season for Seattle. Or so they say.
I don't know who said that Travis Henry couldn't play anymore, but he looked better than a lot of people against the Colts and he's looked pretty good on the runs I've seen today (in very ltd viewing). The numbers look good and I doubt the Titans O-line would be considered dominant.
Anyone seen the whole game who can comment on Henry?
Nice TD by Tiki.
TO scores and all is right with the world.
TO .. 2nd TD ... maybe he should get upset with the coaching staff each week ...
Will TO stop complaining now?
Stoudmire makes me want for Bellamy to be out there. Yes, I just typed that.
Note to Titan LB who tried to catch easy pick with his face mask -- ain't no fingers on that face mask.
Giants TD under review
GK (Texans): How about giving a second round draft pick for either Taylor (Giants) or Turner (Chargers). They are worth more than some of the RBs you have.
BTW, a reality check - your QB has 1 more yd on 3 QB sneaks (15 yds total) than your RB on 10 attempts (14 yds total)
OK, maybe not a nice TD by Tiki.
Who is James Hall working on to get 2.5 sacks against the Bills? I assume Mike Gandy...
I just don't see how Tiki was out there..
Good on you, Shockey.
Whats up with the world ... maybe decline of civilization ...
proof!
1. TO decides not to speak to his receivers coach and has 2 TDs come his way
2. Shockey uses the word "out-coached" and has a TD
What next! Randy Moss for 150 yds, 2 TD game and Winslow has a 10 catches, 120 yds, 1 TD game.
"Every offense seems to get right against the Houston defense." Maybe the best comment I've heard from commentators in a while.
Re: #138
I don't think so. Otherwise a team leading in the second half would just take dozens of delay of game penalties to run out the clock and win.
Seahawks, win the rugby scrum...
ok now Seattle is on fire. Branch in particular.
end of 3rd, washington has good field position after forcing a titnas punt from deep in ten territory
Seattle takes the lead. Incidentally, that fumble scrum may have set some sort of record... it must've lasted at least 3 minutes.
maybe one more TD for TO!
Saints get away with a big PI there.
Those of us who have Matt Hasselbeck on their fantasy teams are quite happy that the Seahawks can't run and are having to pass a lot.
seahawks take lead. big comeback led by hasselbeck
Branch has 2 TDs ... and Tom Brady is quietly fuming!
all games competitive except
dallas has beaten houston
and baltimore is in big trouble
Looked like a bad spot for Steve Smith, which set up Foster to fail on third and inches.
Wendy's can't do math. That's 3 million, thirty thousand, three hundred and three crispy chicken sandwiches apiece.
Someone may want to tell the Falcons' fans that they're at a pro football game, not a library. Seems like there's more cheering when the Giants have a good play.
before taxes. Forty five and a half each after.
Eagles level it.
eagles tie it at 17
And now the Saints and Eagles are tied.
Reggie Brown looking to break the Eagles streak of new leading receivers every game with 121 yards and a quarter to play.
Wow, Chris Rose has a douche-on for T.O. something fierece. Did Owens have relations with Rose's mother or something?
It's sad when holding Barber to 5 yards is a good play.
3 'Hawks linemen vs. 6 Rams... 2 get to the QB. Egads.
182: You have to realize that Atlanta is a horrible sports town because it's a transplant city. I don't know many natives, and of the people who I know who went to the game today, most of them are Giants fans.
Question ... is the NYG/ATL game, the first NFL game with 200+ rushing yds in the last decade?
Aikman: "The Saints have to respect the run down there (inside the 5), and that's why Smith got open."
Does anyone really have to respect the run against the Eagles? I know their DVOA is great, but that's cause they run 5 times a game.
from both teams
How did a bumblebee get trapped inside my FO page?
Re #168
The commentators are wrong again. The correct thing to say would be,
"Every offense seems to get right against the Houston defense except Miami.
re 192
Maybe the first when both teams run for over 200, but the fourth for the Falcons this season (assuming they get one more yard).
Eagles pick Brees off a tipped ball and will start the 4th inside the Saints 25.
Eagles INT off a tipped catch, Darwin Walker catches it and then tries to run it; cue tackle at his knees and another possible unnecessary ACl/MCL/PCL injury on the Eagles D-line.
losman has been great on this drive
Reid calls a run for a TD! ok well it was a pitch to Reggie Brown but you know he thinks of it as a run.
1 play and Reggie Brown takes a pitch in for the TD. Nice lead block from Donovan.
eagles up 24-17
Mike Vick gets tackled hard more than any QB in the league.
And for those keeping track of Williams vs. Bush, Williams has 4 tackles and 1 assist for Houston, and Bush has 2 tackles, 1 after each of Brees interceptions.
Play-by-play guy in Skins-Titans just said, "Welcome back. The Skins fans out there - there are zillions of us - are excited." Thought they were supposed to keep their preferences quiet.
Re: 196
Good point.
Houston, NO, and St. Louis went to half leading by a combined 31 points... and have been outscored 62-0 since then.
big play to brandon lloyd sets up 1st and goal at the 4
now 2nd and goal from 4
portis td. 2 point conversion coming?
Wow, Baltimore just caught a lucky bounce off a tipped pass.
Boller 62 Yd TD ...
Boller's pass rating when he's tipped must be out of control. Can't do anything when he's got a clean oppurtunity, though.
BOLLER TO CLAYTON 62 YARDS TOUCHDOWN!
Saints level it. TD to a wide open Joe Horn, who isn't helping my LL team this week.
Great play on a rollout by Brees, Horn gets open between DBs and sprints to the end zone. Tied again.
texans are done
saints tie it at 24
REDSKINS TIE IT at 22
Mike Lewis writes the next letter on his slowly accumulating release notice from the Eagles.
Mmm Toasty Hot!
191,
Amen. Also Atl is a college football town. The Falcons have been bad far more often than good, and fans who root for the Dawgs on Sat (and to a lesser extent the Jackets) think 7-4 or 8-3 is a letdown year.
Final note -- when I took my kids down to Atl for a game last year, I was really surprised at the atmosphere around the stadium before the game. Nothing at all like any pro or college game I've ever been to. It seemed like every little tailgate party was in competition to see who could blare out rap music louder than the next. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the folks in the suburbs aren't all that comfortable going downturn into all that. That would keep attendance down.
Great I bench Joe Horn this week....of all weeks (I have no RBs either)
Marko (98, 130):
The Lord Mayor's show is a big parade in London with lots of horse-driven floats. During the show, the city is (or was) draped in bunting and festive things; afterwards, it reeks of horse manure. Hence the expression, "After the Lord Mayor's show."
Speaking of which, hello 2006 Carson Palmer!
Buffalo has ball down 3
ravens need a stop or turnover
Just seen a replay of the Saints TD, and Michael Lewis is still looking for the shoes he just got faked out of. He'll be looking for a while.
Has there ever been an NFL game where the lead RBs of both teams have rushed for over 200 yds?
Saints special teams play could prove the difference if the Eagles game stays close, they're playing well.
Boy, that Ravens defense is amazing. After they get a big TD to pull within 2, Steve Smith goes 72 yards for a TD. 23-14 Panthers.
The Lions preparing to break my heart another week.
At least I got the Tigers.
Now Siragusa is making fantasy team asides. Another annoying commentator trend. Thanks, Tony Kornheiser!
Wow, I changed channels for thirty seconds and Carolina scores again.
The Falcons defense has completely imploded. Game over.
Giants win. Panthers win. Cowboys win.
and Ernie Sims might be hurt bad....
Vince Young injured may not return
Weird non-play in Seattle game. Seattle had the ball. Little jumped offsides. Hasselbeck stood up to call a time out. Center hiked the ball. Most people stood around doing nothing. Some Ram tackled Hasselbeck hard.
Is Young hurt? Badly?
Wow, TB is having some passing success on this drive.
maybe not so bad for Sims..though the scream made it sound painful...
Re: 234
They're wrapping Young's ankle. Collins just started warming, so Young may or may not be out. Doesn't look like a long-term injury.
Rams-Seahawks: Game over.
Guess, the talk of SB curse can be canned now ... !!!
ravens td. need onside kick recovery
Seven sacks by the Giants today.
Wow.
237: Thanks
Re: 238
Not so fast.
dallas still throwing, running up score
Young came back in, didn't miss a snap.
191, 218 Thanks for the knowldge on the ATL. Although I see the fans aren't shy about booing, which is something
Tony Romo is in.
Joe Horn has awaken.
Fumble by Morris gave Rams another chance.
The Titans go ahead by three. Looked like they didn't want to test Young's ankle (or other part of foot? I'm confused now).
Duece 10-56
Reggie 9-20
Is Bush not running very well?
This probably won't matter, but why didn't the Giants go for 2 after their TD? The TD came with 3:45 left. They are now up 27-14. With 3:45 left, there is no practical difference between being up 12 and being up 13. Realistically, it's going to take 2 TDs to beat you. They should have gone for 2. If they make it, they're up 28-14, so 2 TDs and conversions can only tie them. Since they are up 13 now, 2 TDs and conversions would beat them.
245: I can't wait to hear the sportstalk this week. Someone is going to ask for them to fire Richt. Just wait. This year's Tech/UGA game should be interesting.
But back to the NFL. Joe Horn is still the man.
Okay, it was the ankle. When the announcers say foot, seeming to correct ankle, I get confused.
OH MY GOD!! IS THAT VINCE YOUNGS' MUSIC!?
25-22 tits
Philly's pretty much bottled Reggie up. I guess that's why Joe Horn (he has to be referred to with both names...) is going off.
Nice defense, Seattle. NOT!
can seahawks defense get a stop here? I'm not so sure. Rams will have their chance.
Wow. That Holt TD was impressive.
253: Please explain?
what is Vince Young's music?
Panthers kneeling out the clock.
"The Redskins need to win this game ... and there's no better man to lead you than Mark Brunell."
1 snap later, Brunell's late to a wide-open Moss. Next snap, Pac-Man drops a pick-6. Third down's also incomplete.
Why was Clinton Portis running so little? I mean, come on, Indy gashed the Titans' D last week, but not Bro Sweets?
What a great series of games today, so many interesting results i don't know where to turn. The PHI BUF BAL NYG and WAS were all super exicitng! This is football at its best and we are learning so much about the teams!
Damn those saints are for real, was Aaron Brooks really this horrible?
WAS is dead in the water.
huge penalty on jamaal bropwn
RE 259,260:
It's an old pro wrestling tradition when somebody you don't expect comes out, his theme music plays first and then he comes running or walking out. The saying has been attributed to Jim Ross, a legendary and long time NWA/WCW/WWE announcer.
Strahan just hit Vick HARD. The announcers just asked why he's still in the game.
RAMS TAKE LEAD!
Eat my words ... twice ... in one game ... wow!
Rams ... ahead by 1 ...
Jesus. The Eagles get a sack and a stop on 3rd & 10 in a tied game with 3 minutes left, and the Eagles D have 12 men on the field.
And a fight breaks out when Vick got hit along the sideline.
Not a bad hit, IMO.
bucs in red zone, down 6. last chance
As impressive as "Jeff Wilkins" two 49-yard field goals have been, Jeff Wilkins hasn't kicked them, he doesn't play for the Seahawks, and Josh Brown plays for the Seahawks and kicked those field goals.
Just to let them know.
Mike Lewis writes another character on that release notice by not chipping a Saints TE on a blitz, TE then catches a wide open pass behind him.
Saints convert the 3rd down at the second attempt, and are now in comfortable FG range with less than 3 minutes left.
How do you have 12 men on the field? It has to be the clubhouse leader for the KCW award.
Re 264: Brooks *and* Haslett
Seattle just about in FG range.
kickoff in san fran
lions, cowboys, panthers, giants won
seattle in fg range clock running down
Saints O-Line is doing a good job against the Eagles blitzes.
It's pretty awesome that Ed "Hurcules" was talking to a crowd of 30,000+ like they were 6-year olds.
hasselbeck + bulger:
6 TDs, ~630 yards
276: Exactly. AB didn't become horrific until the last couple of seasons.
54 yard fg attempt for Josh Brown...
And it's good.
Seahawks hit 54 yarder at the buzzer to win it.
here comes josh brown
Lions freaking win a game!!
looks like that 12 men on field is going to cost philly the game
2:00 left in the Titans-Redskins game, and they pull us away to show a commercial and then (I assume) the kickoff of the Jets game. I hate being a football fan in NY.
bucs 4th down, play under review
Saints convert another big 3rd down. They'll have 1st & goal after the 2 minute warning, and Philly have no TOs. The Eagles should allow the walk-in TD.
Play before Brown's FG, Seattle was trying to spike the ball. Got called for illegal formation. Linehan ran on the field yelling that the game was over. Hochuli had to repeat like three times that the game was not over, before explaining that there's no 10 second run off for that call. Still a stupid penalty (not getting up to the line). If Brown had missed, they would have to keep chopping wood.
As a Seahawks fan, I'd like to kill Torry Holt. As a fantasy owner of Torry Holt, I feel a bit differently.
If the Rams learn to pass protect a bit, they scare me a lot. I can't believe they gave up 3 sacks to the 3 man rush.
1 minute left. washington has ball down 3. needs a few big plays to get into novak's range
And Brunell throws a pick to seal the deal for Tenn.
Mark Brunell sucks.
Thank god, I picked Washington to go the Super Bowl this year.
BUCS TIE IT!
Washington loses as brunell throws pick
Saints are kneeling to run out the clock before kicking the FG.
Josh Brown should be special teams player of the week for that kick.
they called 4th down play incomplete. booth challenge, ruled touchdown for tampa.
14-13 bucs now
Andy Reid's clock management finally gets the reward it deserves, the Saints run the clock out to try a FG to win it with 3s left.
