It isn't that this is the best all-time goofy injury that happened to a sports star (my favorite is still former outfielder Kevin Mitchell, who somehow injured himself while eating a cupcake), it's the quote that Broncos receiver Brandon Marshall had for NFL.com's Adam Schefter after he apparently slipped on a McDonalds wrapper at home, tried to break his fall, and put his right arm through his entertainment center.
"I want to thank everybody for their concerns and let everyone know that I'm okay," Marshall texted Schefter on Sunday morning. "It's funny because I pride myself on YAC (yards after catch) and being one of the toughest players to take down once I have the ball in my hands.
"So for the next couple of days I'm going to take the time to build my confidence back up after allowing that McDonalds bag to take me down and send me through the entertainment center."
The injury required stitches and a cast, and Marshall has been advised to avoid wrestling with his furniture for at least two weeks.
UPDATE: Oh, brother. Schefter's updated report [1]indicates that Marshall didn't slip on a McDonalds bag/wrapper; he was actually wrestling with a family member when he went through the entertainment center. The arm injury is also more severe than originally indicated. He could be out of commission for three months.
