PFT is reporting that the NFL Network's Adam Schefter (who haunts my dreams after playing Head Coach) is reporting that the Jets will cut Chad Pennington at 4:00 PM today.
I said that Pennington was a great fit for the Vikings, and have for a while now. His weaknesses (namely his arm strength) are mitigated by the West Coast offense, and his positives (footwork, consistency, playfakes) are excellent fits for the team.
However, at this point, the same concerns come into play that we've been mentioning with Favre. Pennington would need to learn a new system on the fly, in the middle of training camp. Furthermore, players are more prone to injury in a new scheme since they're having to do new things in new situations, thinking about what to do instead of actually doing it. For a player who's already a huge injury risk, and who will be going behind what many Vikings fans insist is a middling line when it comes to pass blocking, it might be a bad idea at this point of the season to insert Pennington in.
On the other hand...Tarvaris Jackson.
