» Week 11 DVOA Ratings

DVOA has finally climbed on board the Wentz Wagon! The Eagles move into the No. 1 spot, but they aren't the only strong, well-balanced team in the NFL this year. New Orleans, Pittsburgh, and the Los Angeles Rams make this one of the best seasons ever for multiple teams over 30% in DVOA, and Minnesota isn't far behind.

The Week In Quotes: August 18, 2017

Compiled by Matthew Booker

COACH ARIANS MIGHT HAVE TO BREAK OUT THE STICKY GLOVES

"I must've been seeing things back in the spring when I said we had had 12 guys who could play in the NFL. We might have two."

-- Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians on the (lack of) performance of his wide receiver corps in training camp. (AZCardinal.com)

BEN McADOO: SUPPORTER OF GOOD TECHNIQUE, OPPONENT OF FUN

"I like two hands on the ball better than one. I like completions better than incompletions."

-- New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo showing his enthusiasm for Odell Beckham Jr's one-handed catch during a recent practice. (New York Post)

SPEAKING OF THAT CATCH, DID YOU SEE IT? IT WAS INSANE

SHADY IS COLDER THAN A BUFFALO WINTER

"If you compare the two, it's obvious you can agree who is better."

-- Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy comparing his new teammate Jordan Matthews and to his old teammate Sammy Watkins -- and living up to his nickname by tossing some shade (and some truth) at Matthews. (ESPN.com)

I HOPE THEY DON'T THROW IN A FREE SEASON-ENDING INJURY TOO

"It's just one way to show our appreciation for the fans, and to let them know that we're always thinking creatively about how they can put their hand up and say they love the Chargers."

-- Jeffrey Pollack, a Los Angeles Chargers advisor, explaining the decision to offer free Chargers' tattoos to fans of the team. (Los Angeles Times)

HE'LL BE IN GREAT INTERCEPTION-THROWING SHAPE BY WEEK 1!

"My arm is fine, it feels good. I'll be all right."

-- Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles talking about the team resting his arm over the weekend. (ESPN) Apparently that rest didn't help too much because the same day he said this, this happened…

WE'VE ALL BEEN ALLEN ROBINSON BEFORE

-- Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Allen Robinson voicing his displeasure over an inaccurately thrown Bortles pass. This quote might just define the Jags passing game this year. (Bleacher Report, Twitter)

GREG OLSEN THROWING IT BACK TO HIS DAYS AT 'THE U'

-- Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen getting hyped to some early 2000s rap before the team's first preseason game. If you think the preseason doesn't matter, don't tell it to this guy. (Ryan Kalil, Twitter)

SNEAKY ATHLETICISM AT ITS FINEST

-- Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey, in what seems like a daily occurrence at Panthers camp, showing off his deceptive speed and eating up a linebacker in coverage. (Max Henson, Twitter)

BEAST MODE MEETS FEAST MODE

-- Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch shooting the breeze with Guy Fieri. One can only hope the conversation was Lynch lobbying Fieri to include more Skittles in his cooking. (Lindsey Jones, Twitter)

AND SPEAKING OF MARSHAWN…

Q: Talk about how it feels to wrap things up with your new team in the NFL.

"It feels pretty good to go through camp and put another under my belt."

Q: How does your body feel?

"My body is feeling pretty good, considering I was off for that time. It's straight."

Q: What about the opportunity you gave some special kids last week?

"Yeah, that was BeastMode Build a Business, it was an opportunity to give some kids with some great ideas an opportunity and a platform to do something otherwise they wouldn't have been able to do. It was a success, a lot of kids came out and shared their ideas that they had going on. Two of them actually won with an opportunity to do a pop-up shop at the BeastMode store. That's solid."

Q: Let's address the elephant in the room on Saturday, because there's a lot of contention about you not standing for the National Anthem.

"I think the elephant left the room because a little mouse ran in here. Didn't they say elephants are scared of mice or something? That [expletive] left the room."

Q: Do you feel that Coach Del Rio gives players the space to be themselves?

"Yeah because on doctor-24, it's a designed way that you're supposed to run it but I have all freedom to go any way that I choose to run it. I would say yes."

Q: Do you feel like this has rejuvenated you?

"To be honest, I would say just getting my mentality back to waking up early and getting it going and doing something physical, in order to get my body back to its playing ability. That was the hardest thing for me because I'm not a morning person. After that was over, it was straight."

Q: Did you miss playing football the last two years?

"No."

Q: How excited are you to play in the Coliseum on Saturday?

"It's truly a blessing and just to have the opportunity to go and do that is a good [expletive] feeling. It's a good [expletive] feeling."

Q: There are some other young running backs on this team. Have they been approaching you much for advice?

"They're all talented. The biggest thing is that most of them probably were watching me when they were in middle school or high school, so it's kind of crazy. I call all of them my kids so I'm their daddy. But to watch them work and see the work that they put in is a blessing and at the same time, I want to make sure that I uphold their standard of what they put on film. They're all good so I just want to make sure that I fit in with them and continue to just run the ball like the Raiders have been doing."

Q: There are going to be a lot of people wearing your jersey in the Coliseum. Will it matter to you if they sit or stand for the Anthem?

"When we run 74 or something like that, where I have to scan and read on both sides, that is pretty difficult. For the most part, I'm a veteran so I can make it work."

Q: Do you have any advice to the younger fans?

"Just the ones that ask for it. If they ask, I don't withhold any information from them because I want to see all of them succeed. I don't force anything on anyone."

-- Selected questions and answers from Lynch's recent post-practice press conference. (San Jose Mercury News)

'JORDAN MATTHEWS IS OUR NEW No. 1 RECEIVER AND NOW YOU'RE TELLING ME ALL SALES ARE FINAL?'

-- Buffalo Bills fan "Stephen" voicing his excitement early last Friday morning about getting a new Sammy Watkins jersey. Hours later, Watkins was shipped off to Los Angeles. There are truly some things you just can't make up. (@postmalowens, Twitter)

There's 2 times 'had' in the Arians quote.

What happened to Marshawn "I'm here so I won't get fined" Lynch talking to the press?

As far as I can tell, Marshawn has often been willing to open up to reporters, as long as they ask him questions that he wants to answer. Asking him good questions about his charity work helps.

I especially liked his "pivots," how he translated questions about the national anthem into detailed answers about specific football plays.

I love that last Marshawn Q and A -- the literal interpretation of a boilerplate question.

The Watkins fan tweet was confirmed to be a hoax

Marshawn Lynch is the git that keeps on giving.

“Keep that s--t in bounds” - This quote might just define the Jags passing game this year.

Oh my God...I just imagined John Facenda saying that line as the beginning of the Jag's NFL Films year end highlight show!

"The Autumn Wind is a Raider, but the Ocean Breeze is Blake Bortles' favorite drink down at the Lemon Bar . . ."
