NFL Week 12 - Carolina Panthers head coach Steve Wilks has announced that Sam Darnold will be the starting quarterback headed into Week 12 against the Denver Broncos, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The move comes after Baker Mayfield took over the starting job for an injured PJ Walker and posted a season-low -79.9% offensive DVOA. Mayfield finished Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens with 196 passing yards, two interceptions, and four sacks.

Darnold has missed the entire regular season thus far with an ankle injury. He has not started a regular season game for the Carolina Panthers since Week 9 of 2021 in a loss to the New England Patriots. Darnold finished the 2021 season 33rd in both DVOA and DYAR among 34 qualified quarterbacks.

What if we put this deck chair....HERE?  Honestly, I would just start Baker for the .01% chance figures it out. Otherwise, just take your pick.  I don't think they have been mathematically eliminated yet, but their playoff odds are under 1%

I mean, you could put that deck chair there, but odds are it's only going to get sacked or throw an interception anyway.  If we only we had more than 3 deck chairs!

The Darnaissance II (Electric Blue-galoo)

I'm just stubborn at this point, I know, but I still think there's a possibility that there's something there with Darnold. He probably needs a brain transplant to unlock it at this point, but who knows, maybe he had some experimental surgery this offseason and didn't tell anyone about it. It's likelier than PJ Walker ever being more than a backup, or Mayfield succeeding without such a specifically-designed offense (to unlock not-amazing upside at best).

And, hey, if it doesn't work out, maybe he tanks you all the way to a top-QB. They have precedent for drafting a high-upside dual-threat QB high shortly after picking an overrated QB prospect in the mid-rounds, so...

I don't know if there's been a starter that's been worse over the course of 4 years - and gotten enough of a chance to prove it - as Darnold. If there was anything there, I think Adam Gase broke it long ago.

If your chances are Darnold, Mayfield or PJ Walker "getting it"....that's a 99.9 % chance your drafting a QB. The funny part, it's not obvious who helps you win or get a better draft pick.
