Redskins Linemen Downsize For Bigger Results

Joe Bugel believes that he's got another great offensive line in the nation's capital, but these guys aren't Hogs -- even the ones who used to be. Rick Maese of the Washington Post details the off-season training methods of four Redskins linemen, including Mike "Walk-in Refrigerator" Williams, who's down to 342 pounds after weighing as much as 450 at the beginning of 2009

The real problem is replacing Chris Samuels if they have to for any length of time -- as we detailed in the Redskins chapter of the Football Outsiders Almanac, Washington's running game plummeted like the proverbial dead parrot whenever Samuels was unavailable.

225 Kilos, to be more precise...massive, either way...obscene, if you like...one more reason why those endless NFLN commercials regarding an Active Generation should be improved and maybe show some cautionary tales..."if you dont get off the couch...THIS could be you"...scary thoughts,indeed...

WaPo is really selling the fans hard that the OL will be better this year. If Mike Williams is 1/10th the player they're (the DC Media) hyping him up to be, he has to be the early front runner for Comeback Player of the Year.

Of course, just because he makes good newspaper fodder doesn't mean he'll even make the roster. But if he's legitimately dropped 100 lbs, that makes him a fairly easy guy to cheer for.

I'd much rather see a guy like this have a second act to his career then a certain dog-killer who is being rammed down our throats just about everywhere except FO (and thank you for that, BTW!).

The problem with this is I am likely to believe it, because I want to believe it, and thus my perception of my favorite team is off. This is why I can never bet on the Redskins, and I avoid drafting them in fantasy, except for Chris Cooley.

Considering how many offseasons Mike Williams has "dropped weight", shouldn't he weight about as much as a socialite heiress by now?

Oh, that's right, nobody writes newspaper stories on the periods in-between when he packs it all back on again + 10%.

You know I read that article and there's not much rocket science in there ... good nutrition, bit of weight training, few different activities AND a motivated player who recognises he needs to lose fat if he's going to stay in football ...

good you capitalised AND.
Motivation (or will) is key to succeed in something.

Specially when it's your body. Your body it THE thing that represents you for who you are. It's by definition you.
If you want to change your body you HAVE TO change yourself, your brain, and the way you live. "People can't change" is the biggest bullcrap and biggest cop out I've ever heard.

I like it to see that a group of men can set a goal and a coach with a plan who can think outside the box and change things positively and take the 'bigger is better' crap to the garbage.

On a side note.
I'm going to see NFL players train someday. I think I could learn a bazillion things from that.

As a human being, I'm thrilled for Mike Williams, and would love for him to turn it around and be great. As a Bills fan, I don't think I could stand to see it.

Could you imagine if both Williams (an RT) and Jason Peters (an LT), both ex-Bills of recent vintages, have great years, as the Bills' O-line folds like origami paper every Sunday? Yeah, that'd be a delight.

others misfortune gives you pleasure.
That's pathetic.
I love to see the cowboys crash and burn, they do sometimes, so I'm thankful for the past years (as a Steelers fan) but I don't wish they get some mass staph infection or something.
That would be, by the way, be hilarious - a friend told me while typing this.

Who would hand a PR nightmare and a 55% 30 year old QB hold a clipboard for 10 weeks.

I would like for Mike Vick to be sign up for the Washington Redskin, if its possible and they really need a real QB back up, for their team and i do think they have chance to win the tittle again in the Super Bowl, so if anybody out there give Mike Vick another chance because God has giving us another chance. Thank You!

"'You see a guy killing himself, flipping a tire 50 yards in 115-degree heat, and you think, I can roll with this guy,' Williams said."

Sadly, that can easily be literally true.
