We have a quick chat with our friend Steph Stradley at the Houston Chronicle about the Texans defense after Bernard Pollard showed up, and whether they were really a very good defense after that happened.
2 Re: Were The Texans Really Elite After Week 3?
Yeah, I think I'm also going to go with no. And that's without reading the article, or having any idea what Week 3 has to do with anything.

More like weeks 1 and 2 were disastrous.
4 Re: Were The Texans Really Elite After Week 3?
The numbers say Top 12 (weighted DVOA) and marginally better than 0% . Since there are 12 play-off teams in the SB tournament, one could say Play-Off Caliber Defense. But if a play-off team is an elite team...

6 Re: Were The Texans Really Elite After Week 3?
Does this include 4th quarters against Peyton Manning?
7 Re: Were The Texans Really Elite After Week 3?
Looked at the schedule for HOU. The first three weeks were Jets, Titans, and Jags. Unless Manning was pulled in either match, it includes 8 quarters.

I think you read that wrong, TNT.
Actually, the defense wasn't what let the Texans down in either game against the Colts. The first game was lost on a missed field goal (the colts scored only 7 points in the final quarter), while the second was because of an offensive collapse (a pick six and a strip sack deep in Texans territory). All in all, the defense was the reason the Texans even had a shot of winning in the first game, and played pretty well in the second game as well.
