Mandatory Monday*: All Third String Team

My all-third string team, because people are talking so much about third stringers these days. I based the list mainly on the name recognition of the guys: I have no doubt that there are 30 late-round rookies and undrafted free agents who are better than Chilo Rachal right now, but I went with people who have some kind of track record. Fun, a little informative, and about 2,500 words of non-stop passive aggression.

In 2010, the Packers carried 3 fullbacks; John Kuhn, Korey Hall, and Quinn Johnson. Those roster spots have also been converted to tight end spots as they have carried 4-5 TEs the last couple years. Last year, it was Finley, Crabtree, DJ Williams, and Tayler (with Quarless on IR). All five were all on the opening day roster in 2011. Maybe not the TE talent of NE, but still a lot of TEs.

Interesting that Chilo Rachal (best young guard in the NFL according to PFF) and Broderick Bunkley (best run stuffing DT according to PFF) are on this list. It's a cheap shot but I'm taking it.

Some of the OURlads charts seem a bit off, Culliver is not a third string nickelback, he'll be the fourth corner at the least and might end up starting at corner.

I somehow skimmed over the second paragraph and then managed to read (and thoroughly enjoy, natch) the rest of the piece without a single thought as to why it had been written crossing my mind. Duh. (On the other hand, in the grand scheme of offseason press I bet a list of the league's best third-stringers isn't even close to the most desperate reach for a topic we'll see.)

Is Ballard still a 3rd-stringer, now that Hernandez is busy trying to replace Ray Lewis?

Yeah, the irony is that Ballard could end up as the starting TE when the season starts... Credit "Article Deadline Syndrome" for this.
