Usual great stuff. Atlanta is definitely a very strange situation.

I'm going to criticize Tanier a little bit here, but the whole spiel on Luck and the Colt's backup situation rings hollow. There simply aren't 32 backup quarterbacks of the quality he describes in the league, and saying a GM that can't find one should be fired seems harsh.

I think thats true. But there were definitely better options than Tolzien and if lucks health was in question then they should have gone after someone like keenum or fitzpatrick. Or traded for brissett earlier.

Hmm, I can think of at least one unemployed QB who took his team to the Super Bowl...

It's entirely reasonable to expect that a GM will at least *try* to find a quality backup, which the Colts have abjectly failed at.

Especially when you know your starter has a messed up shoulder. It might make sense to skimp on the backup when you have a really durable starter, for instance NYG have typically underinvested in the position because Eli has never missed a start. But there's just no excuse for it during an offseason where your starter has major shoulder surgery.

There are 32 quality backup QBs available. The Patriots had two of them, at the beginning of the season. I'm sure they have a third on their roster now.

I'd bet (without actually looking) that such uneven distributions of wealth are the norm. Some teams will regularly have multiple backups with strong upside, because they're good at identifying it. Other teams are like the Browns.

Remember when Wash drafted RGIII and Kirk Cousins in the same draft? They had some top-notch QB evaluators

The Wentz Wagon will be stopped by the team that ended the Derek Carr machine last year -- a more experienced team + coach.
