Len Dawson Passes Away at 87

NFL Preseason Week 3 - Hall of Fame quarterback and legendary broadcaster Len Dawson died today at the age of 87. Dawson played 14 years with the Kansas City Chiefs and led them to victory in Super Bowl IV. He was chosen as the second-team quarterback of the All-1970s team behind Joe Namath. He was also a Chiefs broadcaster for 33 years and was part of the early cast of HBO's Inside the NFL.

I remember him hosting Inside the NFL.  Did a great job.  Didn't get to watch him play, but he was a key part of the SB IV victory.  Patrick Mahomes has shared some nice photos of him and Dawson.

Yeah, I'll always remember him from Inside The NFL, and that measured delivery during highlights.

Inside the NFL was so much better than any other football TV coverage at the time. It really changed how things were done. Him and Nick were good on the show and the format was amazing.

One of only three men in the HoF as a player and broadcaster, with Gifford and Dierdorf.  RIP, Lenny the Cool.

 

edited to add:  Madden is also in a a broadcaster and as a coach, but not as a player.
