NFL Offseason - After a one-year sojourn in Southern California, All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner is going back to the Pacific Northwest. NFL.com is reporting that Wagner has agreed to a one-year, $7-million deal with the Seattle Seahawks.

A second-round draft pick out of Utah State in 2012, Wagner set a franchise record with six first-team All-Pro selections through 2021. He was awkwardly released in the spring of 2022 and went on to sign with the Seahawks' division rival, the Los Angeles Rams. He led the Rams with 140 tackles and 10 tackles for loss last season, setting a career-high with 6.0 sacks. L.A. released him shortly before free agency began, but he remained unsigned until Saturday night.

It's a bit of a strange fit because Seattle is theoretically running a 3-4 scheme, but they now have three off-ball linebackers with Wagner joining fellow free-agent signee Devin Bush and incumbent Jordyn Brooks. Will they go back to a 4-3 base, with Uchenna Nwosu and Darrell Taylor (both under 270 pounds) playing as undersized defensive ends?

Solid. Still a good player but they could've traded for him for half the cap hit (and some extra unguaranteed years). Then again Edmunds is getting $18m AAV (yes, I understand why).

Brooks's 2022 ended with a serious injury that is likely to last into 2023, and he wasn't very effective before he was hurt. I wouldn't be surprised if his career is basically over.

If you have more LBs, isn't a 3-4 preferable?  That's what the Giants and Saints had in the 80s, and more recently that's what the 49ers had when they played Willis and Bowman together.

Maybe only if you prentend Devin Bush is an nfl caliber starting linebacker. Which he is not.
