NFL Conference Championship - The Los Angeles Rams are hiring former New York Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur for their offensive coordinator position, according to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

LaFleur spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the New York Jets. Despite never finishing higher than 22nd in offensive DVOA, New York's -8.3% offensive DVOA in 2021 and -9.6% offensive DVOA in 2022 were better than eight of the Jets' last nine seasons. LaFleur also previously served as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach for the San Francisco 49ers.

The Los Angeles Rams' -8.1% offensive DVOA ranked 23rd in the league this season. It is the team's first season with a negative offensive DVOA under head coach Sean McVay, who is set to return to the Rams after mulling retirement this past offseason.

I'm sure Kyle vouched for LaFleur. I'm unsure McVay's OC does much more than fetch his morning coffee for him.

Being McVay's OC might be the most unpromising OC/DC position out there. McVay will get all the credit for any success the offense has. I don't know that Stafford has any healthy seasons left in him, and without his playing well ...

...unless it's being Kyle's OC.

But shoot, I was hoping the 49ers might get him back.

Distinction I see is that there's a reasonable expectation of the Rams' offense stinking next year: Stafford being hurt or age+injury ineffective. If so, LaFleur will catch some/a lot of blame for that failure.

In fairness, there is the recent example of Nagy.   Recency bias FTW.
