Hey, did you notice in Football Outsiders Almanac 2016, where we compared Shaun Hill and Sam Bradford's career stats and noticed how similar they are? Well... surprise!
1 Re: ESPN: Is Sam Bradford Really an Upgrade over Shaun Hill?
I can't read the article, but as was pointed out in the comment section for the article on the trade, Hill is now 36, and could easily be worse now than he's been over most of his career. There's also the argument that Bradford is better than his numbers suggest.
Apparently the Vikings agree that Hill is better, though, since he's actually ahead of Bradford on the depth chart.
2 Re: ESPN: Is Sam Bradford Really an Upgrade over Shaun Hill?
I agree, even if bradford and hill have the same overall level of play - Hill's age means at a higher risk of injury/ deteriorating play as the season goes along.
To me, that wasn't worth a first round pick, but oh well.
3 Re: ESPN: Is Sam Bradford Really an Upgrade over Shaun Hill?
Age and sample size, two things FO usually are the first to ring the alarm about that they are conspicuously ignoring in their current commentary on this.
Bradford isn't worth a first rd pick in any context but saying Hill is the same or better option this year is a little absurd
4 Re: ESPN: Is Sam Bradford Really an Upgrade over Shaun Hill?
I'd also say that the only people who have seen Shaun Hill every day for a couple of years are the people who are best able to judge whether sticking with a now 36 year old Shaun Hill is a viable option.
5 Re: ESPN: Is Sam Bradford Really an Upgrade over Shaun Hill?
Shaun Hill six years ago? Maybe not. Shaun Hill now? I'd have to say "yes."
6 Re: ESPN: Is Sam Bradford Really an Upgrade over Shaun Hill?
I dreamed I saw Shaun Hill last night,
Alive as you and me.
Says I "But Shaun , you're ten years dead"
"I never died" said he,
"I never died" said he.
"The safety blitzers killed you Shaun,
They dogged you Shaun" says I.
"Takes more than sacks to kill a man"
Says Shaun "I didn't die"
Says Shaun "I didn't die"
"In Saint Louie Shaun, " says I,
Him standing by my bed,

+1000.
Highlight of Labor Day week for that huge cross-section of the population who are old Wobblies and NFL fans.

I couldn't quite map Saint Louis to Salt Lake and ah, well you get the idea.

Thanks, andrew!

Ah, Joe Hill. All Americans should know that history and the those who struggled to create the middle class in this country. I wonder if he was a Jim Thorpe fan.
12 Re: ESPN: Is Sam Bradford Really an Upgrade over Shaun Hill?
Joe Hill and John Henry, too.
13 Re: ESPN: Is Sam Bradford Really an Upgrade over Shaun Hill?
I've liked Shaun Hill for years. He did a creditable job for the Lions as backup for Stafford, at least until the Giants knocked him out on an (uncalled) illegal hit. But I'm not surprised the Vikings took a flyer on a younger 1st rounder. The only question is which one will succumb to injury first.
