ESPN: 30 Best Offenses of the Last 30 Years

We've got a huge historical feature on ESPN Insider all week: Football Outsiders' own version of "30 for 30." Since we now have 30 years of DVOA ratings, we can count down the top 30 teams in DVOA history. Today, we start things off with the top 30 offenses. That means a lot of Patriots, Colts, and 49ers teams... and more Chiefs than you expect. One big change with this countdown is that we've incorporated the playoffs, which will boost teams such as the 1989 49ers and 1990 Bills that went on big postseason runs against tough competition.

As a special bonus, we've also got a countdown of the five worst offenses. And for those curious: Yes, 1986 is still coming after we're done publishing Football Outsiders Almanac 2017. It wouldn't change today's countdown much, but the 1986 Bears would have ended up very high on tomorrow's list of top defenses. Wednesday we do top special teams, Thursday is the top teams overall, and Friday brings the top individual seasons at the fantasy positions.

I love the vitriol in the Comments section of the article on ESPN. What do you mean the 98 Vikings are 30th? How could the greatest show on turf be 29th? This is total garbage!

Good entertainment.
