NFL Outlaws Lowering Head to Initiate Contact

Let's have some rule changes! The NFL is always tweaking the product, but we've got a couple of big ones this year. One of them announced today is this: "It is a foul if a player lowers his head to initiate and make contact with his helmet against an opponent. The player may be disqualified. QBASE 2018 (ESPN version)

Frank Reich to Be Indianapolis Head Coach

The Colts have quickly found a new head coach after the Josh McDaniels debacle, agreeing to terms with Philadelphia offensive coordinator Frank Reich. What I find interesting here is that Eagles QB coach John DeFilippo agreed to leave to become offensive coordinator in Minnesota just two days ago, even though he knew Reich was interviewing in Indianapolis. I wonder why he didn't wait a couple days to see if the Eagles' OC position might be opening up.

49ers Make Garoppolo Highest-Paid Player

The 49ers and Jimmy Garoppolo have agreed to a five-year, $137.5 million contract, source says. The biggest deal in NFL history on a average-per-year basis, until Kirk Cousins signs his next contract. In case you were wondering why Handsome Jimmy G. did not want to stay in New England as Tom Brady's backup for the $17-$18 million they allegedly offered him in a contract extension, this is why.

ESPN: Projecting Top 10 Picks in 2019 NFL Draft

Is this way too early and a little ridiculous? Yes! Did I do it anyway when the ESPN editors asked? Yes! On average, two playoff teams will decline enough to pick in the top 10 of the following draft, and I think you can guess which two playoff teams got into the article.

McDaniels Turns Down Colts, Stays with Pats

Sources tell ESPN's Adam Schefter that McDaniels will not accept the Colts' head coaching job, and will instead remain with New England. Huge, if true. This is the very definition of breaking, so we'll see what happens.
