NFL Kickers Going the Distance This Season! (or perhaps not)

I swear to god, Len Pasquarelli writes this column every year. He points out sometime at midseason that kicking and punting numbers are at all-time highs. Last year, it was "Brian Moorman is going to break the all-time gross punting record" or some such thing. Len, dude, it is called "weather."

The FO special teams numbers account for the fact that it is easier to kick indoors than outdoors, and easier to kick outdoors in September than outdoors in December. But we can also run those numbers without the weather and altitude adjustments.

SITE NEWS: Midseason Call for Game Charters and 1995 Data Entry

Hi everyone. As always happens, a few people drop out of the game charting project during the season, so we're looking for a few additional charters. You learn a ton about the games, and when the year is over, people who charted a minimum number of halves will get all the game charting data free. (I also get some free copies of the book for some of our most dedicated charters.) We're always looking for people with Sunday Ticket who can do any game as necessary, but we're also looking for certain geographical regions.

Freeney Placed on IR

This is colossal news, reported by both the Indianapolis Star and John Clayton over at ESPN.com. The Colts have dodged injury for so many years -- except for Bob Sanders -- but this was bound to happen eventually. No Harrison, no Clark, no Ugoh, random dudes picked out of the stands playing linebacker... We're about to see what it would be like if Peyton Manning played quarterback for the 2006 Washington Redskins. As a Pats fan, I feel the rivalry is less fun when major players get injured like this. From the Indianapolis chapter of PFP:

2007 Quick Reads: Week 10

Looking at Peyton Manning's worst performances. No, he's not the worst quarterback in DPAR this week, but you'll see just how rare it is for him to put up negative value. I seem to have forgotten to write comments for the running backs. Sorry about that.
