FO Chat at Baseball Prospectus

Covered in this chat: Admitting to KUBIAK errors, the difference between bias and incompetence, the future of the Eagles, the 2007-2008 Titans as the 2005-2006 Bears, and the team most likely to end New England's perfect season before they reach the AFC Championship game. Hint: Not Pittsburgh.

Defense: The New School

There doesn't seem to be a lot of crossover between the top defensive players of 2006 and the top defensive players of 2007. (Click link to read more.)

Pickle Juice Sport

You know, I was thinking of writing an XP about how Jason Witten is probably the best tight end in the game right now... Antonio Gates may be the best receiving tight end in history, but nobody combines receiving skills with blocking skills like Witten does. Then I saw Matt Mosley link to this. Good luck on those endorsement skills, Jason.

ESPN Numbers Crunching: Week 10

Here's our latest look at Sunday's matchups through the eyes of the FO stats. Learn about the disappearance of Alge Crumpler and why the Vikings-Packers contest ain't over 'til it's over. Unfortunately, they cut my joke that "Chicago is last in the league defending slot receivers, while Oakland is last in the league in slot receivers anybody has heard of." Thanks to Ryan Wilson for doing a large part of this week's article while I was busy running around Philadelphia and South Jersey (details of that to come in tomorrow's TDZ).

Disproving a Cold-Weather Theory

Teams run the ball more in cold weather? Turns out to be a load of crap. Good stuff from Ken Daube, who I think is one of the fantasy football guys who came over to ESPN.com when they bought Talented Mr. Roto.

DVOA on AOL: Week 9

Yes, I feel strange posting DVOA on AOL Week 9 after FOX Rundown Week 10. It disturbs my sense of mathematical order.

Week 9 DVOA Ratings

The Pats and Colts play the game that DVOA expected, while the Steelers and Cowboys score prime time blowouts to give us a dramatically dominant top four. Actually, it is a dominant four-and-a-half, because the Titans defense is climbing into rarefied air.

2007 Quick Reads: Week 9

Adrian Peterson set the NFL record for rushing yards in one game, but he didn't have the highest running back DPAR in one game. In fact, believe it or not, he didn't even have the highest ROOKIE running back DPAR in one game. Quick Reads explains that and gives info on all the best performances of the week according to FO stats.

ESPN: Late First-Round WR Gems

This week's Monday Night Football matchup between the Steelers (Santonio Holmes) and the Ravens (Mark Clayton) gives Ned and myself a chance to revisit his research from the Detroit chapter of PFP 2006.

ESPN Numbers Crunching: Week 9

Here's more of the new ESPN column featuring FO tidbits for every game on the schedule. This week, find out two very strange things that Jacksonville and New Orleans have in common, experience the wonder of left end runs by (and against) the Redskins, and learn why the Game of the Century may end up a lot like last year's AFC Championship -- Pats early, Colts late.
