The Patriots have officially slipped the bonds of reality, the first team ever to have a DVOA over 70% later than Week 5. The Colts are the best team of the past dozen years other than the Patriots. Maybe the hype is warranted this time? Plus: San Diego returns to the top five and Tennessee's defense widens its lead.

Under the weather again (it hasn't been the healthiest 2007 around here) so thanks to Bill Barnwell for contributing about half the comments in today's Quick Reads.

All three of Denver's wins this year have come via field goal, either at the end of the fourth quarter or in overtime. This week's MNF-related ESPN.com article looks at other teams that racked up a lot of close wins early. (Clink link to read more.)

Here's the second part of our new deal with ESPN.com for two pieces per week. Each week I'll be doing a notebook of stats tidbits revolving around each game as part of ESPN.com's "Sunday Countdown" page. We'll mix in some DVOA splits, ALY and ASR, some of the individual defense stuff, and eventually some of the charting data. Some of these stats show matchups where one team can take advantage to win this week's game; other stats are just fun trivia.

Here are this week's comments on every team at AOL Sports, with photos! Unfortunately, these don't get permalinked... this off-season, I'll archive each week's DVOA comments (including the last two years on FOX) somewhere on FO. That should be fun to look back at.

Once again, the Patriots and Colts are 1-2 in this week's DVOA ratings, and they are closer than you might think. In fact, the difference between them comes down to one unit: special teams -- and, in particular, one very ironic position. And speaking of special teams, what is Seattle doing at number one?

How would Tom Brady's 2007 season score on the "Greatest Quarterback Seasons" list from Pro Football Prospectus 2005? If you guessed "it would be the new number one," you are correct. But where would it place if Brady slows down a bit? Plus the rest of this week's best and worst players in DPAR.

A bad, bad season gets worse in Miami, as running back Ronnie Brown and safety Renaldo Hill are both done for the year with knee injuries. The 0-16 watch might be as interesting as the 16-0 watch, but it will be hard for the Dolphins to avoid a win when the Jets and Bills are so bad too. The Rams, on the other hand...
