In Friday's conversation with Bill Simmons, I linked to an article on steroids and the 1970's Pittsburgh Steelers. I misinterpreted this article and I regret the error. I know that the readers of this site hold me to a standard of complete perfection, and I let you down. Please accept my apology.

Cameras Don't Lie: Patriots have their Watergate

Yes, I know you've all been waiting to hear what Bill Simmons has to say about the Patriots videotape scandal. And, I am guessing that many of you are waiting to hear what I have to say about the Patriots videotape scandal. I'll bet you didn't expect that you could read both in the same place. Bill and I went back on forth on the Pats scandal for the Sports Guy blog today. Twice the pro-Patriots bias in half the time! Plus, this is likely the first and only Bill Simmons column to ever have an "al chait" reference.

Most Valuable Position

Over at Slate, Robert Weintraub tries to figure out the order of positions from most important to least important. My biggest problem with this is that he has safeties so much higher than cornerbacks. That's true, in some defensive schemes. In other defensive schemes, the cornerbacks are far, far more important than the safeties.

Let Us Now Praise Ron Jaworski

King Kaufman on Monday Night Football's regular-season debut. Hint: He loved it. Me too. I also think Mike and Mike and Mike did a good job with the night game considering that a) Mike and Mike aren't used to working with Ditka; b) Ditka's done even less in-game color commentary than Golic has, and you could tell from his mistakes; and c) that game sucked harder than Chasey Lain. (Note: Must watch ad to read Salon column.)

Orlando Pace Could Miss Season

There were a lot of major injuries on this first Sunday of the season, and while this wasn't the biggest from a human perspective -- that would be Kevin Everett's spinal injury -- this is probably the biggest from an on-field perspective. Jay Glazer of FOX Sports is reporting that Rams left tackle Orlando Pace is done for the year with a shoulder injury. Sure, strange things happen, but this pretty much ends the Rams' season. In case you don't have your PFP 07 handy, I'll remind you of what happened when Pace was injured halfway through 2006.

Slate PFP Excerpts

Here's a link to the three articles on Slate this week adapted from PFP 2007. The first one adapts the Indianapolis chapter and talks about the Colts and their uncopyable blueprint. The second one talks about sleepers for 2007: Washington, Jacksonville, and Green Bay. The third one talks about the game charting project and our quest for coaches' film. (Click the 1, 2, 3 on the top to read the three different articles.)
