FOX Blog Wrap-Up, December 16-22

Here's a catch-all thread for discussion of this week's posts on the Football Outsiders FOX blog. Covered this week: What is DeAngelo Hall doing in the Pro Bowl, why the Colts don't allow runs around left end, the top 10 special teams of the DVOA era, Delayed Reaction Hate Mail of the Week, and Mike Tanier's rant on insane Philadelphia fans who want to permanently replace Donovan McNabb with Jeff Garcia. Plus: updated 2006 charting stats on the best and worst cornerbacks. There are a few interesting surprises in there. Is Pac-Man Jones now the best cornerback in football?

Chiefs' Green Machine Sputters

The word out of Kansas City is that Herm Edwards will consider replacing Trent Green with Brodie Croyle next season. After all, the Chiefs have scored only one touchdown in their last two games. They've played Baltimore and San Diego, but I can't imagine that there is any sort of cause-and-effect connection there, so let's get on with the Brodie Croyle Era already. By the way, Larry Johnson is still on pace for 402 carries. We'll be having a moment of silence for Johnson's career at some point in the second half of Saturday's game, when he officially passes into the danger zone.

Carson Palmer Injured?

Attention: Unsubstantiated Rumor Alert. Pro Football Talk is reporting that Carson Palmer was injured in Monday night's loss to Indianapolis, possibly as bad as a torn rotator cuff. For now, this is a rumor, but PFT does have a good record on these rumors turning out to be facts. Not a perfect record, though, so again: Unsubstantiated Rumor Alert.

Why Your Color Analyst Can't Have Laryngitis

David Scott calls Saturday night's game the "all-time worst, American, professional TV broadcast." Seriously, how did the NFL Network let Dick Vermeil go on the air when he could not talk? On the other hand, Vermeil was excellent as an analyst, and so was Marshall Faulk when he entered the booth, and even Deion Sanders wasn't half-bad. (Although I could have done without Vermeil's constant references to "remember how you used to do that with the Rams, Marshall?") Public opinion on the NFL Network seems mixed, but my individual opinion is pretty mixed too.
