Colston Playing Mentor to Meachem

With all the off-season examples of jerkitude and jackassery monopolizing the NFL news, I found this story about second-year New Orleans receiver Marques Colston and his mentorship of rookie Robert Meachem to be a real breath of fresh air. Colston didn't get a big head after his amazing rookie season, in which he went from seventh-round draft pick to DPAR Superstar seemingly overnight.

Jones Soda To Be Served at Qwest Field

No Coke, No Pepsi, that's right -- Jones Cola. Sadly, the Thanksiving flavors are unlikely to make an appearance.

The article mentions that the other 31 stadiums are locked down by either Coke or Pepsi -- I have vivid memories as a child of Shea Stadium being RC Cola (maybe until 1991-1992?), but I can't imagine many other stadiums have had other soft drinks available in the last 15 years or so.

Keyshawn Johnson To Retire

Keyshawn Johnson has turned down an offer from the Titans and will instead retire and work with Chris Berman. That's gotta hurt Norm Chow's feelings.

Giants Trade for Tynes

I wanted to make a New York-upon-Tynes joke here but it wasn't coming. Blame the book.

The Giants have acquired Lawrence Tynes from Kansas City for a undisclosed pick.

Raiders Sign Travis Taylor

OK, will somebody please tell Lane Kiffin that amassing more mediocre skill players does not give you more offense? The Raiders now have Taylor, Jerry Porter, Ronald Curry, Alvis Whitten, Johnnie Morant, Mike Williams, Doug Gabriel, and Johnnie Lee Higgins, all fighting for playing time at wide receiver. They could go four-wide all the time, but then what would they do with tight ends Zach Miller, Courtney Anderson, Tony Stewart, Fred Wakefield, and Randal Williams?

North Texas Gets 2011 Super Bowl

The Cowboys will finish construction on their $1 billion stadium in time for the 2009 season, and two year's later, they'll host the Super Bowl. Indianapolis was in the running, and now it will be at least five more years before the Big Game returns to a cold-weather city. (Detroit hosted the event in 2006, and before that, it was Minnesota in 1992.)

Brian Finneran Tears ACL Again

So much for the return of Atlanta's only dependable receiver. Well, one of two, now that they have Joe Horn. Who is now one of one.

Anatomy of a Draft Choice

I think a lot of people were wondering why the Broncos traded up in the first round to get defensive end Jarvis Moss. And then, why they gave up a 2008 third-rounder to move into the fourth round to draft troubled defensive tackle Marcus Thomas. Well, today's your lucky day. General manager Ted Sundquist gives a detailed account into the team's thinking behind both picks, as well as their overall draft strategy. Easily one of the most insightful things I've read on the draft.
