Monday Night Jaws

Pro Football Talk is reporting that Joe Theismann is out on Monday Night Football, replaced by... yes, official friend-of-FO Ron Jaworski. Maybe Monday did, actually, just become something worth waiting for. (UPDATE MONDAY: Yep, it's official.)

Remembering the San Diego Super Chargers!

Randomly surfing the Web at some point last week, I came across this article on Chad Finn's website about his childhood love of the late 70's-early 80's San Diego Chargers. Consider it a random beam of light during a dark period of NFL nothing-ness between free agency and the draft. Love that Chuck Muncie picture.

Falcons Deal Schaub to Texans

The Falcons have traded backup quarterback Matt Schaub to the Houston Texans for a second-round pick (#39 overall) and possible other considerations. This gives both teams a clear direction going forward. The Texans have been stumbling around, seemingly without a franchise blueprint. Now they have their quarterback of the future and can concentrate on building the team around him. David "Footsteps" Carr will be gone, and so will the psycho-drama that has floated around him for the last couple of years, since it became clear that he just wasn't going to be a star in Houston.

June Bugged

Cato June racked up 142 tackles last season, but is that an accomplishment of skill by June or an accomplishment of futility by the Colts defense. Mike Tanier explains how all tackles are not created equal. (Click link to read.)

Marcus Pollard? Seriously?

Aaron Schatz weighs the merits of signing a 35-year-old tight end. Quick hint, he questions the Pollard signing.

The Ultimate NFL Championship

Fun little post over on Armchair GM, where a guy who calls himself "False Prophet" is holding an NCAA Tournament-style competition between 64 of the best NFL teams in history to figure out the greatest of all time, simulating results with whatifsports.com. The tournament does have one problem, as he seems to have placed the 64 teams in order to create interesting first-round matchups rather than seeding them based on quality. Not only are a lot of first-round matchups just Super Bowl rematches, but he has the 1985 Bears going up against the 2006 Colts.
