Jerramy Stevens Arrested for DUI, Marijuana

Yeah, this was great timing. In the offseason that has seen more ridiculously huge contracts signed than any other, the thing you really DON’T want to do, especially after you void your own contract and enter the market, is get arrested for driving under the influence and possession of marijuana. Yet that is exactly what former Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens did very early Tuesday morning in Scottsdale, Arizona, as first reported by Michael Ferraresi of the Arizona Republic.

MMQB: No Deals, No Problem

In this week's Monday Morning Quarterback, Peter King writes about something that I think needs more discussion: Maybe the smartest teams are the ones that aren't spending much money in free agency. Just because you have the cap space doesn't mean you need to use it in March.

Patriots Sign Donte' Stallworth

As a Steelers fan -- mortal enemy of all things New England -- I'm very impressed with what the Patriots have done during the first week of free agency. The latest move, signing Dante' Stallworth, might be more important than the Adalius Thomas deal -- at least if you're Tom Brady. According to ESPN.com: "Stallworth will sign a six-year contract. The deal is believed to be worth a little more that $30 million with close to $12 million guaranteed." So, who will be catching passes next year for the Eagles?

Cardinals Sign Roderick Hood

I know, I know. You're saying, "I thought XP was only linking to major free agent signings. This is a major free agent signing?" Well, Arizona had a ton of money this off-season, and they haven't spent much of it. But what they have spent, they have spent wisely. The Cardinals had a Pro Bowl strong safety and a first-round cornerback who will hopefully blossom in 2007. They also had a below average second cornerback and a free safety who was a rookie when the Bears still played in Decatur. Those players have now been replaced by Arizona's two main free-agent signings.

McGahee Traded to Ravens for Three Picks

The Bills have traded Willis McGahee to the Ravens for the Ravens third- and seventh-round picks in 2006 and their third-round pick in 2007. That represents a draft value of somewhere around a very late second-rounder, depending upon where the pick is next year. The Bills apparently dealt McGahee in fear of not being able to sign him next year. At this point, do you think the NFL has noticed that the Bills are pouting?

Jones Gifted on Field, Troubled off It

By now, you've read hundreds of rumors, short blog posts, and discussion thread comments about Pac-Man Jones. But here's something a bit more substantial about Jones, his background, and the troubling question of why he acts the way he acts. I understand the idea of "keeping it real" and the fact that Jones's desire to stay true to his childhood friends puts him in bad situations.
