49ers Hire Falcons' Fired PR Man

The 49ers have hired Aaron Salkin their director of public relations. Why do we bother to mention this somewhat mundane story? Because it serves as a reminder of what happened to their last PR director, Kirk Reynolds, who resigned after the explicit training video he made became public.

Salkin was the subject of a mini-controversy himself last year, when the Falcons fired him during training camp. The official word was that he had philosophical differences with owner Arthur Blank, but it couldn't have helped his ability to deal with the press that he had called them leeches.

At first I read that as Aaron Sorkin...now that would be interesting.

Speaking of Art Blank, click on my name for a free portal to the AJC article on how the Falcons tried (vainly, most likely) to land another Super Bowl.

Only about $10 million in incentives to the NFL came from taxpayers!

And here's old Art kvetching about the temerity of players seeking to renegotiate their contracts (but not, alas, the far, far, far more common push by teams to unilaterally void deals).

So, in the end, who are the leeches?

Badly dressed football beat reporters grabbing quotes at training camps?

Or team owners who settle multi-million dollar civil suits for sexually abusing their women workers and then demand $10 million in taxpayer help for a one-day Super Bowl?

Or their mouthpieces, the overpaid toadies like Aaron Salkin?

I report. You decide.
