The Best There Ever Was?

Tom Brady dons the cover of this month's GQ, and the article provides an interesting glimpse into his life. It's not your typical look at an NFL superstar, but it does offer some unique perspectives you definitely wouldn't get from your local paper. For example, apparently Tom Brady and I have at least one thing in common: we both like internet porn. OK, I've said too much.

Yeah, but if you look at the numbers, Peyton Manning is much more prodigious in his porn habits.

Earlier this year, pitcher Carlos Zambrano of the Cubs was shut down briefly because of arm soreness. The explanation was that he had repetitive stress on the arm from continuously IM'ing and e-mailing his family in Venezuela.

Now, the injury report says Brady has a "dead arm". The possibilities are endless, but I bet the Patriots' training facility just got Internet filters.............

Re #1 YOU FOOL!!! Manning has a cable modem, I could probably download a Gigabyte or more of porn with his computer. Brady downloaded his porn with dial up and did so when it really counted (girlfriend out of town).

You'd think a world-class athlete could "go left" when needed, because Carpal Tunnel is a bear. I'd also think that prolonged awkardness would be preferred to speed, again arguing for the off-hand.

Or he just needs to get acquainted with "The Stranger". Shouldn't matter which hand you use for that.

(Don't let Peter King find this thread, he might hurt himself imagining this subject matter.)

Good lord...GQ spreads that article out on more "pages" than even CNNSI can manage.

Yeah, but if you look at the numbers, Peyton Manning is much more prodigious in his porn habits.

Well, Manning has a few more free weekends every year than Brady does....

I think you're all missing the point. Why the hell would someone like Brady need porn at all?

I saw pennington play in Marshall and Brady play in Michigan in 1999. What the hell was the big difference between the two that made pennington go in the 1st round and brady go in the sixth round in 2000?

Re #8 Clearly, even then NFL scouts were aware of Brady's pornography addiction.

#8, on a more serious note, it was because Brady shared time on the field with a (freshman?) Drew Henson. It wasn't skill-related, though. Henson kept getting offers from the Yankees, and the only way his football coaches would keep him at the collegiate level was to let him see the field. Scouts didn't listen to that explanation, setting the base for what is now the NFL's prototypical rags-to-riches story.

If you haven't seen any of the pictures... you can click here to see some of them on my blog..

Trogdor makes the best point of all. You've got to figure that Brady can get ungodly amounts of primo tail any time he wants it. Brady looking at porn would be like me turning down an invitation to eat at a fine restaurant because I want to sit at home and watch the Food Network.

RE: 8 & 12

Maybe Brady really is a golden boy! Maybe, unlike most of us slobs, he would not walk into the team hotel, pick out the three hottest chicks, and go wild. This is known as "Pulling a Shawn Kemp" in the NBA. Or, God forbid, have a fling with a groupie and then have them slap a rape charge on you. For people in the spotlight, internet porn is probably a wise choice compared to some of the gold-diggers out there looking to hit it rich off a quick fling. I am wholeheartedly in support of all pro athletes downloading porn off the internet!

I find it ironic to find a football player in GQ. Although Curtis Martin made it onto Esquire's best dressed gentlemen's list this year (albeit near the bottom), the sport isn't known for boasting nattily attired men of leisure.

For those of us who have covered basketball, baseball, hockey and football, the pigskin portrait is one of muss, little fuss and a lot of guys named "Gus."

Only in the NFL would grown men wear terry cloth (TERRY CLOTH!!!!) outfits home from a game.

You don't see this in the NBA. You won't even see it in AAA baseball. But on any given Sunday, some lineman, somewhere, is going to commit an unpardonable crime against fashion.

Oddly enough, they're still better dressed than most reporters and always, always, always more finely attired than, scoff, a coach.

He's just so dreamy with that goat....so many chins, I don't know how I can spread my love between them all.

Re #7:

I don't think it's a matter of "needing" porn; it's a matter of enjoying it!

I'm not doing as well as Brady should be, but sometimes even I just want to be alone with my porn. Tell all the girls to go home and leave me alone for awhile, and let me have a little quality time with some airbrushed nymphos who won't bother me about my toenails.

re #14:

Football is a manly sport, and unpardonable crimes against fashion are manly.

You'll find them common among rugby players as well.

And I have a feeling that some of the really big men in the NBA--the Greg Ostertag models--are quite comfortable in real-man attire.

This isn't Italy.
