Horn Questions NFL on Cell Phone Use

Now this is really funny. Joe Horn, who was fined $30,000 two seasons ago for using a cell phone during a touchdown celebration, wants Falcons head coach Jim Mora Jr. docked the same amount for using a cell phone during Saturday's overtime loss to the Bucs. According to NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, " ... the use of cell phones on the sidelines is prohibited." Luckily, Joe Horn wants to make it clear that he has nothing against Mora:

""I want $30,000 ... I'm not trying to player-hate Coach Mora, but it shouldn't be a double-standard league. A player gets fined, then a coach should get fined under any circumstances."

Shouldn't that be "coach-hate" Coach Mora? Or "player-hatin'-coach" Coach Mora? Just asking.

I thought Jim Mora Jr. could be a decent coach, but this season has made me rethink that. The new Norv Turner?

Go, Joe Horn! I think the guy might have a case.

A case? No, probably not. He was using his as an end zone dance, right? I mean, it's probably not against the rules to defecate or write during a game, but that's really not the same as Moss or Owens' celebrations.

Oh to be a fly on the wall when Mora hears about this.

"Thirty thousand dollars?! Thirty thousand dollars?!! Are you kidding me?!!"

if the rule is
… the use of cell phones on the sidelines is prohibited.

then yeah, mora should be fined.

Mora should definitely be fined, but I don't know that Horn's fine is necessarily relevant. I thought his was a celebration fine. Mora definitely wasn't celebrating ...

#5 exactly. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a rule saying "no cell phones" for competitive purposes, although I don't know of one. But it's a separate issue from the Horn incident.

My take on touchdown celebrations: if you need an outside prop, it should probably be out of bounds. As far as cell phones for coaches? Let 'em chat away, hell give 'em laptops -- let 'em crunch the numbers Football Outsider style.

I thought Mora was underqualified for the job, and I was terrified of him getting the Bears HC job. I didn't think his defenses in SF were particularly good or particularly well coached.

"If LSU don't want us there, I don't want to play on their nasty field,'' Horn said.

Lol. He has a good point.

The sad part was, Mora used the "Phone a Friend" option, and still couldn't get it right!
He should've called me. :D
