To paraphrase Kanye West: "Steve Young hates free market economies."

I believe Ryan is referring to this quote from Young about Chris Simms: "I worry that he grew up in a much different atmosphere, a laissez-faire kind of atmosphere."

The strangest part of this story is that, according to ProFootballTalk.com, the use of the term "laissez-faire" proves that Steve Young is clearly a homosexual.

Profootballtalk.com is the Internet's leading source for distracting homophobic non-sequiturs.

Make sure you're nowhere near Utah if you're implying anything untoward about Steve Young's sexuality. I believe in Salt Lake City they will hang you for less.

so i'll start it off, who would you rather have simms or young at qb? phil not chris

I can understand being protective of your children, but Simms' reply is little crazy. Yeah, come around my house buddy and I'll laissez-faire you. You want laissez??(holding up left fist) You want faire??(holding up right fist) They're right here, mic 1, mic 2. Git' some. Yeesh.

As proved by his retort, Steve Young can still scramble with the best of them. Two games is not really a trend there Stevie.

1. laissez-faire
An economy or market with no regulation or restrictions on how the said market operates, thus allowing the most efficient allocation of a resources in an economy. The laissez-faire or 'market system' is the unplanned capitalist economic system. The extreme opposite is N.Korea, Cuba, China etc.

3. laissez-faire
Fr. Either a term meaning a policy of non-interference in economics or meaning an indolent homosexual.

From urbandictionnary.com

How "laissez-faire" could become a synonim for homosexual ? Does it stand for what we call a "passive" homosexual (because "il se laisse faire", he lets it happen) ?

For the economic thing, it comes from the "laissez faire, laissez aller" sentence explainig the birth of the capitalism in the eighteenth century.

And it's not fair to say Young is fairy.

(Ok, it wasn't fun, sorry)

Simms never was much on the pass rush. Seems all he's got to get at Young is a vaguely intimidating bull-rush while screaming "I'll show you laissez-faire". Unfortunately Young's time out of football seems to have had an adverse effect on his ability to stand up to pressure, and he retreats from the rush. I think by the end of the play he just about got the pass off, but if he keeps that attitude to pressure up all season he may have run backwards further than Aaron Brooks.

Heh heh, it's the weekly QB of questionable ability "fires back" at commentator thread. Can't wait till the next installment: Ken Dorsey fires back at....? (Off topic disclaimer: Dorsey is a guy I'd love to see have success: it would so please me to see him have, at least, a better career than Eli.)

#6: The argument goes like this. Steve Young used french words. Only homosexuals use French words, therefore, Steve Young is gay.

Tangentially, your comment reminds me of the time Hank tried to explain why American football was superior to futbol: "Soccer was invented by European women to keep themselves busy while the men cooked"
- Hank Hill

Ok, I see, French is synonimous of sophistication, and as homosexuals like what is esthetic, sophisticated and elegant, they use French words while others chew tobacco, spit and say "hey, gal, brimme ma beer !"

That's it ?

"I worry that he grew up in a much different atmosphere, a laissez-faire kind of atmosphere."

Is Steve Young a communist?

Geez, a bit sensitive of Phil don't you think. I wonder if he'll ever do a Tampa Bay game when his son is QB.

by ammek (not verified) :: Wed, 11/23/2005 - 2:25pm

French people use French words too. Not all of them homosexuals.

#8: This was Phil Simms not Chris Simms who fired back at Young. And maybe if Dorsey had permanent eligibility at Miami he would have a better career than Eli.

Aww, geez. Steve Young is one of dem dere fruit loops dere, Edith.

Possible quote of the year:

"Feud of the week: Phil Simms screaming about Steve Young saying Chris Simms wasn't tough enough because he grew up in a 'laissez faire atmosphere.' Meanwhile, Steve Young came from the mean streets of Greenwich, Connecticut. You'd hate to see this thing end with somebody getting strangled to death by a Burberry's scarf." - Bill Simmons

Isn't it cute that daddy is getting his feathers ruffled? He showed his toughness there, didn't he?

"#6: The argument goes like this. Steve Young used french words. Only homosexuals use French words, therefore, Steve Young is gay."

And Phil Simms said "laissez-faire" twice, so....

Oh great, now I just said it.

This is so freakin' ridiculous. Steve Young might be one of the classiest guys to play the game. He is too smart to say anything that insulting.

I listened to Young on a Bay Area radio show, and he said that he was referring to the professional atmosphere of quarterbacks today being laize-faire. He wasn't referring to his upbringing at home! If you listen to Steve's comments AFTER that he actually compliments Chris on his superb game on Sunday.

Phil Simms- get out of here. What a tool.

What is kind of funny regarding the homosexual aspect of this thing is that there is a gay-oriented sports site that has tracked Phil Simms "homoerotic comments" (their term, not mine)

by NF (not verified) :: Thu, 11/24/2005 - 5:18am

I'd like to note that Steve Young's comment about there being a more laissez-faire atmosphere is wrong. If it was more laissez-faire, there would be less restrictions on contracts and how coaches run their team.

Thus, Steve Young actually began his career in a more laissez-faire atmosphere than Chris Simms.

by lafcadio (not verified) :: Thu, 11/24/2005 - 5:55am

A tous, merci.

I think Young was better than Simms, but clearly Brady is better than Manning.

P.S. I am not gay. And at least three of the QB's named above aren't, either.

by Shalimar (not verified) :: Thu, 11/24/2005 - 7:58pm

Brady is gay? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

by big_adventure (not verified) :: Thu, 11/24/2005 - 7:59pm
