Brown Out Indefinitely

Ronnie Brown will be missing for an indeterminate period of time after having surgery on his left hand.

For those of you who read the headline and had your heart stop for a moment as you pondered the deleterious effects of Ralph Brown's injury on your IDP league, I apologize.

Great. Now that I have to play Cadillac on a regular basis again, let me declare the 9th spot in this year's draft the worst spot ever.

He has been underperforming as my #2 Fantasy back, but then again Droughns has been underperofrming at an even higher level at my #3 rb! :(

I'll echo #1... the bottom half of the first round was craptacular this year... Jordan, Brown, Cadillac...

I took Westbrook over Cadillac in the very bottom of my first round (PPR league.)

I was feeling very smart until last Sunday.

I'll be good as long as "c(l)ock eatin' Corey Dillon" gets injured, for I have LoMo.

Is this the PFP cover curse in effect?

To put a non-fantasy spin on the subject (imagine that), there goes Miami's dream of finishing the season on a 9 game win streak.

We Dolphins fans knew it was a pipe dream, but after a 1-6 start, it was nice to have a dream.

I don't care how well Sammie Morris did against Detroit, the guy sucks. Thanks a lot Ricky! We depended on you and here we are, leaning on Sammie Morris and Travis Minor.

re 7 (Andy):

I dispute that notion (that Morris sucks, not the 'win out' part). Check his DVOA in 2004; the guy will answer when called upon. He probably won't dazzle you, but it's not like the Dolphins are getting neutered...

Before the injury, Ronnie Brown has been a top 10 back in most leagues.

For someone going in the lower half of the 1st round, that is solid value. You generally don't win your league in the 1st round, you just don't want to lose it...and Ronnie certainly did not lose it for you like Alexander/Edge/Jordan/Caddy. If he's been your #2 RB and you're not at least in the playoff hunt, you screwed up somewhere else along the line.

Sorry for being harsh, but things like this irk me: Unrealistic expectations based on fuzzy math. In this particular case, that would be "Ronnie Brown 2005 + Ricky Williams 2005 = Ronnie Brown 2006", which is just as silly as the people who thought LJ would maintain his per-game stats from last year.

Sergio, 2004 was a long time ago. I got two eyes. This year, in 2006, my eyes told me Sammie sucks.

Look, I HOPE he's a stud. I'm pretty sure he won't be.

9 Well I am in 3rd, so my team isn't in horrible shape.

But I really did expect him or R. Johnson to be a top 5 back and right now they are 9th and 10th in my league :( Not bad for gettign them 7th and 13th, but still.

Great. I had the 10th and 11th picks in my draft this year. I was pleasantly surprised when I got Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams there.

My team isn't doing so good. . .

I had Westbrook, Brown, TJones and THenry at RB in my keeper league, where we're playoff bound. Before the deadline, I dealt TJones for SMoss to obtain more depth at WR (TO and DJax there); I'm not feeling great about this today.

i had the #8 pick in my draft, first year of playing ff.. came out okay, got R. Johnson and S. Jackson.

Now QB.. that's a different story. Started out with Brooks and Leftwich, now I have Grossman, Plummer, & Romo, who I thankfully started this week. I was just hoping for 10 pts, but Ill gladly take 32.

Post #4 makes absolutely no sense. :(

Since this seems to be the "bitch about your team" thread, in my private league, I put almost all my auction points on Hasselbeck, Fitzgerald, Portis, and Ronnie Brown (all durable players who missed major time due to flukish injuries). I'm still in 1st place (don't ask me to explain it either), but I don't like my chances of actually winning.

Anyone know if scoring is down in NFL and/or fantasy this year? I think it must be.

by Mnatr (not verified) :: Sat, 11/25/2006 - 7:18pm

I actually figured out whether real scoring was down this year. It is, but only by about 2.5 points a game.

Offensive yards per game is up about 5 yards.

I conclude that this is kind of interesting.

Compared to the recent year-to-year variation in points scored per game per team, a 2.5 change is big. Pts/team/game for the last 10 years, from latest to earliest:
