Texans Release Phillip Buchanon

If there's ever a Mt. Rushmore for first-round cornerback busts, Phillip Buchanon should get serious consideration. Good thing the Texans only gave up a second- and third-round pick to get him.

Wow. Further proof, if proof be needed (it is NOT!) that Charley Casserley did an amazingly bad job as GM.

He was drafted so high because you can't coach speed.

Unfortunately, you can't coach not-being-Phillip-Buchanon either.

I remember in week 2 last year Phillip Buchanon literally tried to tag Willie Parker as Parker flew past him for a touchdown. It was an honest to God Two hand Touch play.

Buchanon got benched the rest of the game and someone chewed him out on the sideline.

It was one of the most pathetic efforts i've ever seen from a defensive player, Parker literally ran right at him and Buchanon just slapped at his back as he ran past him......

so lets recap: if zona dbs can catch, that's *six* turnovers in 28 minutes for grossman.

What a shame, he's awesome in Madden '06

I saw this news on the crawl on the bottom of MNF. I literally threw my arms in the air and cheered.

It was one of the most pathetic efforts i’ve ever seen from a defensive player…

You obviously didn't see the Adam Jones whiff last year. He did his best bullfighter impression, and savvy Titans fans won't soon forget it.

Tim, don't get too excited. Given Houston's historty they'll sign Ahmad Carroll to replace him.

Add Willie Middlebrooks to the mix of Buchanon and Jones, and you're 75 percent of the way to that inglorious Mount Rushmore...

James (#9):

Too late. Jacksonville picked him up last week. They believe Carroll still has potential in the right system and given the right coaching (Dave Campo seems to be a pretty decent secondary coach...regardless of how he was as a head coach). Of course, he's currently at 5th on the depth chart (3rd RCB), behind Terry Cousin and Scott Starks (who plays almost exclusively on special teams). So basically, they have him at an equivalent slot as 7th round pick Dee Webb, who is listed at the 6th on depth chart (3rd LCB).

Side note: If Jacksonville makes it to the AFC Championship game this year or futher, their coaching staff may get absolutely raided. There are enough dumb owners out there to give Dave Campo and Mike Tice head coaching gigs again, and Mike Smith has done a pretty good job as defensive coordinator over the last 3+ seasons (especially considering he didn't inherit much talent, and the team hasn't drafted a 1st-round defensive player in at lear 5 years [Leftwich, Reggie Williams, Matt Jones, Marcedes Lewis in the last 4 years]).

How long until Buchanon is a Redskin? They need all the help they can get in the secondary, and he's from Miami, like half of their team.

#13, I thought exactly the same thing, and as a fan the thought tasted like swallowing my own vomit.

The Skins grabbed Troy Vincent instead (link below).
