"There's no reason to believe that Turner's chance of being that exception is any greater than Shaun Alexander's chance or Larry Johnson's chance or Jamal Lewis' chance or anyone else who has suffered from the Curse of 370."

I'm not sure that's entirely true, at least as regards Johnson. You may think the steep part of the curve is somewhere between 350 and 400, but 416/429 carries has to be worse than 376/394. [edited for typo in with-playoffs carry figure]

Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting Turner to justify a top three fantasy pick this season. I just think we're probably looking at decline, not Alexanderish collapse. 290 carries, 3.9YPA, 10TDs, that sort of thing. Still a viable fantasy RB2/3.

That is about where KUBIAK has Turner. As a round 3/4 pick.

There's a big difference between "take Forte over Turner" and "don't even consider Turner in the Top 30." To be clear, FO endorses both of these statements, at least Kubiak does.

Remember the [James] fumble on the 1 against the Pats a few years ago?

Umm, yeah, it was Opening Night five years ago. In the NFL, five years might as well be 25 years.

However, we are, as far as I know, the only people on earth whose projections do not have Adrian Peterson number one.

You're not in the majority, but I'm positive you have company. Ian Allan of the Fantasy Football Index has a non-Peterson player at the top of his current yardage/TD list. Brandon Funston of Yahoo is ranking MJD number one. I'm sure there are others.
