Browns Demote Jerome Harrison

Browns unsigned restricted free agent Jerome Harrison only skipped a few OTAs this offseason, but he may have lost his spot on the depth chart in the process.

Rookie running back Montario Hardesty ran with the first team offense at Browns practices when the media were allowed to watch Thursday. Harrison, who rushed for 561 yards in the final three games last season, is seeking a new contract.

This is why you can't have nice things.

Darn. I was looking forward to that 565-carry, 2992-yard season.

Don't joke.
Don't even joke.

So the Browns continue their policy of not allowing exciting offensive players on the team.

Either Mangenius is a knuckle-head or Harrison is a disruptive force in the locker room.

Maybe Rex Ryan would make a conditional 3rd and 5th round pick for Harrison. Worked for Braylon Edwards.

I don't think those two options you listed in the first sentence are exactly mutually exclusive.

"Either Mangenius is a knuckle-head or Harrison is a disruptive force in the locker room."

Or it's June and depth charts are irrelevant.

Browns suck. Who cares

manGINi takes his dictator-pose too far...
what's next? Fujita doesn't says "domo arigato, sensei" to him or Cribbs does not bow to him properly (dont even dream of refusing riding his bus) and they go down? (and never it is a first down, of course)

This week, in premature news...

This is the kind of stuff that makes me terrified as far as Fantasy goes. Jerome Harrison is a guy I wouldn't mind drafting somewhat high, yet I cannot bring myself to do so because I would constantly be living in fear that he'd step on a sidewalk crack and get demoted to special teams. As far as I'm concerned, no Brown is draftable while Mangini is head coach.

agenet for Harrison need to play Bo Dddley "bring it to Jerome" song to cleebvland brwsn front office

I appreciate the Archer reference if that's what you were intending.

I keep hearing that Jerome Harrison should be drafted high (fantasy-wise) and start for the Browns because he "rushed for 561 yards in the final three games last season". No one seems to care that those games came against teams with run defense ranked 25, 31, and 7 (and, being the end of the season, even less to play for). Nor that his DYAR puts him between Beanie Wells and Jason Snelling. Yick. Call me when this guy actually accomplishes something.

by RaxGrissman :: Fri, 06/04/2010 - 4:23am

Agreed. I never got the impression that he was that special. His YPA isn't really that great if you take out that game against the terrible KC run defense. And beating out Lewis and Jennings wasn't exactly that impressive a feat. I was planning on avoiding him altogether in drafts.

by Nathan :: Fri, 06/04/2010 - 12:55pm

Maybe so. All I know is I've watched a grand total of 3 Browns games in the last 2 years (none of them were the games you're talking about) and the only 3 players who have shown any kind of potential on offense were Cribbs, Massaquoi and Harrison.

Edit: meant to reply to post above.

by BucNasty :: Fri, 06/04/2010 - 4:42am

Is that DYAR for the season or for games started?

by drobviousso :: Fri, 06/04/2010 - 10:17am

This is just pathetic.

by Big Johnson :: Fri, 06/04/2010 - 3:35pm

the guy gets half a season to start and almost breaks the single game rushing record, oh i know, lets put him on the bench. im sorry to all the browns fans (if there are any actually left)

by maqdeee (not verified) :: Fri, 06/04/2010 - 4:16pm

wait what's the problem here, they need to start someone at RB while Harrison is gone, it's not like he showed up and was made to watch the practice. Someone explain the big deal.

by Nathan :: Fri, 06/04/2010 - 4:34pm

it isn't a big deal, it's just funny because browns fans have been clamoring to see more harrison for years because he's looked pretty good whenever he's gotten the ball...

by huston720 :: Fri, 06/04/2010 - 4:36pm

Ok lets not get too worked up over this, he is only playing with the second team because he just showed up and there is no reason to switch him out with a rookie who has been playing with the first team while he skipped the OTAs. florio is just looking to drum up anything he can during the dead time.

As a Browns fan I expect jerome to be the starter with a heavy dose of Hardesty depending on how effective he is. I would still say Harrison is a good back to have for depth fantasy-wise, especially if the Browns offense is able to improve some with any sort of improvement in QB play over last year.

Also here is the link to a story about why Harrison decided to join OTAs.

by Nathan :: Fri, 06/04/2010 - 4:37pm

florio's positions are all calculated to create the maximum number of clicks, comments and exposure. no matter what time of year. i'm not complaining, i check his site compulsively because he posts so many goddamn articles, but he's all about trying to stir up as much discussion / ad revenue as possible.

by Theo :: Tue, 06/08/2010 - 7:21am

...and when he does well, he gets traded for scrubs and draft picks.

by mmr (not verified) :: Sat, 06/05/2010 - 5:06am

A guy isn't running with the first team in early June after missing some OTAs and this is classed as being demoted and seen as significant?

I'd have expected better from this site.
