Chargers Tender Sproles, Release Jamal Williams

Er, forget that. The Chargers have tendered Darren Sproles at the first- and third-round level.

They've also apparently released veteran nose tackle Jamal Williams. I wouldn't be surprised if the Chiefs made a move for him.

They pretty much had to do this, and I think that it indicates that they want to sign him to a long term deal but weren't able to agree to terms by today.

Sports talk radio and sports message boards are the killing fields of intellectual discourse.

Him who, Sproles or Williams? ITS NOT THE PSYCHIC FRIENDS NETWORK!

Sproles. Williams is pretty long in the tooth and short on the health.

Aside from the injuries, can't run-stuffing 3-4 NTs sort of hang on forever? I'm thinking of guys like Jason Ferguson, Ted Washington, Sam Adams, and Pat Williams (who fits the mold even though he plays in a 4-3), who all were playing well into their upper 30s.

I think that comment was posted when the XP was just about Sproles, before the news about Williams was added.

What's Williams' health situation? He'd been the anchor of that defense for a while, I've got to think that unless his body is totally torn to shreds he'll have his share of suitors.

Rumors are:

Chargers are willing to trade Sproles for less than a First and Third.
Chargers want to re-sign Williams for less than the 6M he was owed.

Whatever team that plays the 3-4 and is not the chiefs will be heard of in the play offs.

Heard it here first!
