SITE NEWS: Audibles Charity Auction

Last week, Twitter user @ChrisAronchick had a great idea for us: "Have you all ever considered a silent-auction-type charity deal in which someone bids to be able to participate in Audibles?"

We hadn't, but it's a great idea. So we're going to do it.

We've put together a charity auction on eBay for just that purpose. The auction is live now and will finish next Monday at 12:30 PM ET.

The winner of the auction will be added to our e-mail chain for the Divisional Round edition of Audibles at the Line on Saturday, January 15, and Sunday, January 16. They'll join us for our live comments on the game, and then be included in the edited Audibles at the Line discussion that gets published on the site Monday morning.

The proceeds of the auction will go to the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund, the non-profit, 501(c) (3) corporation that provides hands-on assistance and financial aid to help retired NFL players deal with some of the hardships they may encounter after football. Your donation is likely tax-deductible; please check the tax laws in your jurisdiction to confirm.

Because this auction is time-sensitive, payment will be required through Paypal or via credit card within 72 hours of the end of the auction.

We reserve the right to edit the comments provided for Audibles for taste and grammar. (In other words, please don't bid with the intent of advertising your landscaping company or adult website.)

Unless, of course, RaiderJoe wins...

Sports talk radio and sports message boards are the killing fields of intellectual discourse.

Hell I'd contribute to a fund to see raiderjoe win this thing.

Especially if it turns out that raiderjoe runs an adult landscaping company

I do say yes to that.
Am I the only one who thinks RJ is secretly a Mike Tanier creation?

I too am good for a raider joe contribution as well as a vote that he is a Tanier alter-ego.

And I'll contribute to the beer-fund to make sure he's on top form while he's doing it.

What he said. And some others...

Feel like this would have been worth way more if it was for the next season and not just for next week.

Then it could even be someone with S/T who watches ALL the games...

Great idea!

I think the winner should appear in "Audibles" under their FO handle :) (unless they want to appear under their real name).

by Bobman :: Mon, 01/03/2011 - 5:53pm

This is such a good idea it's surprising it's only surfacing now. You could do it weekly to raise charity bucks more consistently, and guys could bid based on when their team has a big rivalry game--so if the Eagles/Giants and Colts/Pats happen to play on the same weekend, there might be some pretty aggressive bidding.

See how this one goes first....

Tired of seeing your game not mentioned in Audibles? Feel like doing something about it?

I like that idea ...

by akn (not verified) :: Tue, 01/04/2011 - 8:18am

There would finally be someone who actually talks more about the game itself rather than the broadcasters.

by tgt2 (not verified) :: Tue, 01/04/2011 - 1:25pm

I should now bid on this with the intentions of ONLY talking about the announcers.

by Key19 :: Wed, 01/05/2011 - 1:46am

I can't help thinking that the winner of this will either:

A: Try WAY too hard to be funny/insightful and will clog up things with too many lame/blowhard comments.

B: Try so hard to avoid becoming Option A that they will hardly say a word, but the few things they do say will be awesome, and we'll all be left wanting more.

I'm very interested to see how this works. As an aside, if raiderjoe is the winner, I will print off the entire Audibles article and hang it on my wall. I'm 100% sure that it would be pure gold.

Wow. Ended up going for $245!
