From Jay Glazer: "Not only has Trent Green been cleared to return to practice, Herm Edwards has informed FOXSports.com exclusively that he will name Green his starter for Sunday's game versus the Raiders." It'll be interesting to see how Green looks after missing nine weeks of the season with a concussion, and what Edwards' contingency plans are if Green struggles early.

I'm a big fan of playing football on grass, but between awful weather and 22 fat guys slopping up and down the field for three hours a week, teams in the Northeastern United States inevitably end up playing on dirt surfaces by the middle of November. A few years ago the Steelers installed a hybrid natural grass/artificial turf surface with mixed results. (A lot of that has to do with sharing a field with the University of Pittsburgh and the local high school playoffs). To paraphrase Lloyd Dobler, I guess Field Turf is the wave of the future for most cold-climate teams.

It looks like Clinton Portis will be out more than three or four weeks. Portis, who broke his hand in Sunday's loss to the Eagles, says he expects to be out twice as long as originally reported and the Redskins are considering placing him on injured reserve. T.J. Duckett will get his first extended action since coming over from the Falcons this summer. (free registration/bugmenot required)

I don't know what to say about this so I'll just rip off MJD's AOL FanHouse post: "Tom Brady threw an interception against the Jets, and the rightful thing to do is to bench him for Vinny Testaverde. Tom Brady screams 'mediocrity.' Vinny Testaverde screams 'Italian Superhero.'"

Will Mike Vick ever turn into a quality passer? The better question may be whether or not Mike Vick is the most unique quarterback in NFL history. (Click link to read more.)

Good news ladies -- and ladies who recently became men -- NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says there are no male-only eligibility rules. All humans are welcome "as long as they are three years out of high school and have a usable football skill set." The Cardinals offensive line certainly meets the "being human" requirement, but the part about having "a usable football skill set" is up for debate.

After last Sunday's loss to the Broncos, Raiders quarterback Andrew Walter complained that Oakland's offense was too predictable (insert Tom Walsh bed and breakfast joke here). Well, head coach Art Shell doesn't take kindly to malcontents: "You have to be accountable for what you do ... [F]or him to come out and say those things, [that's] totally off-base as far as I'm concerned." So instead of punishing Walter, Shell will punish the entire Raiders fan base by starting Aaron Brooks. Yeah, that'll fix it.

Think having five defensive starters hurt is a problem? Not if you are Tim Lewis and the New York Giants. (Click link to read more.)

The question is not whether Saquon Barkley is the best running back in this draft class. The question is whether any running back, even one as good as Barkley, warrants a top-five draft selection in the NFL in 2018.
