According to Adam Schefter's sources, Rodgers could miss three weeks after fracturing his collarbone in the first quarter against the Bears on Monday night.

At least Julio Jones and Owen Daniels can keep him company in my fantasy team's recovery room.

Is it the injuries? All year I've been trying to understand why I can't make a reasonable week of picks this season. This year is absolutely on crack. I'm doing better against the spread than I am straight up. Has this really been a record year for injuries? It seems like we lose marquee players every week.

I'd have to think the free agent QB market is pretty thin right now too. Seneca Wallace is a known quantity and reason to sign someone else, like Charlie Batch or a 50 something Vinnie Testaverde.

Pretty sure Favre is available.

Matt Flynn is available.

Thank you, I had a good laugh.

Isn't Jeff George still up for it?

by Shattenjager :: Tue, 11/05/2013 - 5:15pm

Stop exaggerating. Vinny doesn't turn 50 until next week. And honestly, I would take a 49-year-old Vinny Testaverde over some QBs who are currently in the league, though Seneca Wallace is not one of them.

This discussion is going to be de-railed by discussion of Saint T the Incapable, but until then we can talk about actual quarterbacks!

I don't know what's out there that's not clearly worse than Wallace. David Carr is a free agent but somehow seems like a bad pick for playing with good weapons behind a porous offensive line. Vince Young has a bit of experience with the system but it's only three weeks and they obviously didn't see much to like or he would be there instead of Wallace now. B.J. Coleman is a similar story, though he at least has a full year in rather than three weeks. Wallace probably really is the best bet.

Is Matt Flynn still out there? Would he be better than Seneca Wallace?

by Arkaein :: Tue, 11/05/2013 - 5:59pm

I think they should pick up Flynn. Even if Rodgers is only out a few weeks (which some reports have made sound possible), GB still needs another QB, since Rodgers and Wallace are the only ones on the 53 man roster.

They also have Scott Tolzien on the practice squad, but I'm pretty sure Flynn would be better.

Also, unlike Carson Palmer and Josh Freeman getting thrown into the fire with new teams in the past couple of years, Flynn's experience with the system and players should mean he could be ready to play fairly quickly, if they needed him to.

Flynn is also a better long term backup plan that Wallace, if he doesn't get any more interest as a potential starter anywhere.

Buffalo released him yesterday, so they could sign him, provided he clears waivers.

If you're the Lions or Bears, would you pick up Flynn just to prevent the Packers from getting him?

by Cythammer (not verified) :: Tue, 11/05/2013 - 10:39pm

The Packers have some sort of strength of schedule tiebreaker over the both the Lions and the Bears, so they won't get the opportunity.
Flynn seems like the right choice to me. At the very least see if he looks better than Wallace in practice.

by dbostedo :: Tue, 11/05/2013 - 9:31pm

I would love to see them sign Flynn, and for him to have a couple of really good games, and parlay that into another big contract, and then get beat out in training camp again.

Is it the Doug Peterson Principle that says QBs rise to their level of incompetance?

by justanothersteve :: Wed, 11/06/2013 - 1:32am

Rumor mill has it that something is wrong with Flynn's throwing arm. It was mentioned today on ESPN Milwaukee. Nobody had any details.

Personally, I wish they had kept VY. I realize he may not have been able to do all the things McCarthy would like the QB to do. But he at least could probably have kept the Packers competitive for a couple games. It's up to the coach to keep the best players and modify the game plan to fit his players, not find players that best fit the game plan even if they're not very good.

I hope he comes back as good as he has ever been. But I cannot help myself feeling glad that he will probably not face the Giants...

by RickD :: Wed, 11/06/2013 - 11:32am

Redskins and Cowboys fans are none too pleased that this injury is just in time for the Packers games against the Eagles and the Giants.

by Theo :: Tue, 11/05/2013 - 5:35pm

How badly did Vince Young scare them? He's had a few weeks with the team so he's got a step on David Carr and some others.

by sundown (not verified) :: Tue, 11/05/2013 - 5:44pm

Stepping on David Carr only comes after he's actually entered the game.

by justanothersteve :: Tue, 11/05/2013 - 7:26pm

Adam Schefter is probably going on sources that told him these things typically take that long. Rodgers has stated they are still testing and doesn't have a timetable for his return. http://www.espnwisconsin.com/common/page.php?feed=2&id=10981&is_corp=1

I will preface this by saying I would never hope for another team's players to get injured, but it happened. Now the Lions suddenly have their best opportunity to win their division since the early 90's....and one that won't come again for years. As a Lions fan I'm conditioned to expect them to blow it, of course. Next week's game in Chicago will be quite telling.

by Theo :: Thu, 11/07/2013 - 6:46pm

QB Scott Tolzien signed to active roster from practice squad.
