How the Texans Get Their Run Game Back on Track

Lance Zierlein has a thorough analysis of what went wrong with the Texans running game last season, and what they can fix for 2013.

And now, so as not to complete thread-jack, about the article.

Interesting read, but don't the recommendations (don't let multiple defenders penetrate the backfield, secure the edge, open cut-back lanes when possible, and have a good passing game to keep the safeties back) apply to any and every team that wants to improve its running game?

You know, that analysis sounds a great deal like the Vikings in 2011, particularly when Ponder was running the offense.

I suspect it wasn't completely the OL's fault here. Defenses generally mushed together a rush-pass indifference because they didn't respect the passer (or passing game) very much and did respect the runner.

Easy money for you gamblers out there. Watch Schaub in the preseason, with an eye out for whether he's healthy. Towards the end of the season and in the playoffs, he was not really athletic enough, either from injury or age, to be playing the game. If the preseason ain't convincing, then there's suckers out there who can be had, with the right early game matchups. Say, Detroit.
